Rem 552 Speedemaster ejection issues
I bought a used 552 manufactured in 1981. There was a 22lr Shell stuck in there when I bought it. The case head actually came off leaving just a cylindrical tube. Got it for a song because of that...
The gun will not eject unfired rounds. I have renewed the xtractor (and firing pin) with no joy. It appears that the extractor does not grab the underside of the shell. I have a spare extractor to play with now, but I was thinking of filing down the extractor groove in/on the barrel to allow a better purchase on the rim. Anyone got any input? Am I going about this the wrong way?

I'd give the chamber and extractor groove a good cleaning before attacking with a file.

I'd give the chamber some attention too . If the previous owner shot anything but Long Rifles in it , the chamber could be fouled , which will cause extraction problems , with LR ammo ! Take the barrel off the gun and give the chamber a good clean and polish treatment , and your troubles may disappear !

It got a thourough cleaning when I bought it. Didn't polish it though.
Maybe someone has a picture of how the cartridge sits in the chamber. I'll post one up when I get home. It seems mine just sits too low and flush with the chamber "mouth". Not too keen on putting a file to it either. Might try a stronger extractor spring before I do that
