Savage rifles - what's the dif?

A while back I asked about different riffles in 300 Win Mag and got some great tips. I have been doing my homework, held several examples in the shops. I have pretty well settled on Savage, (although I have not completely ruled out TC) But I still can't seem to sort out what is the difference between the Savage 11 series and 16 series?

here are 2 that are both designated "Trophy Hunter XP", with the only difference being 11 and 16 series. These are for comparison. I can't tell from Savage web site what the difference is? except about $120.
Model: 16/116 Trophy Hunter XP
Model: 11/111 Trophy Hunter XP

Here are 3 that I'm narrowing in on, look like they may be what I want. Synthetic stock, Stainless barrel, Accu-trigger,

Model: 16/116 FCSS
Model: 16/116 Bear Hunter
Model: 11/111 Long Range Hunter

again, looking for these models in 300 Win Mag. Mostly for hunting mule deer in CA mountains with sparse vegetation and longer shots. Just a little on targets more just to be sure I'm shooting well.

so what is the dif?

The Model 16's are stainless while the 11 is blued. Other than that, they are pretty much the same actions.

As Fusion pointed out, the 16 is stainless while the model 11 is blued.
The 16 is a short action while the 116 is a long action.
The 116, has a hinged floorplate whilest the 111 has a detachable magazine.
If it were me, the 116 Weather Warrior in 7mm Remington magnum would be the one for those open terrains, it has less recoil than the 300 mag.

Also the 116 WW, has the Accustock and Accutrigger.

hmmm, it seems to me there must be other differences besides stainless and blue. There are stainless and blue in both series.
Is there a difference in the receiver? hooligan1 you say there is a dif in the action, but you said 16 and 116, is that a typo? and how can you tell which is short and which is long action?
or some other basic model difference?

You want one of the 116 models if you want a 300 mag in SS. The basic actions are the same. Stocks and other features may be slightly different and some come with a blind magazine, hinged floorplate or detachable magazine. 3 digits = long action, 2 digits= short action

The bear hunter has a Camo stock, fluted barrel, muzzle brake, a 23" barrel, and hinged floorplate.

The 116 FCSS has a detachable mag, SS and 24" barrel

The 111 long range has a 26" barrel, hinged floorplate and is blue instead of SS

So what did you wind up with?

You question was posed a few years ago. What did you wind up getting? I'm currently in the market for a 300 win mag. I was set on the Browning X bolt but don't like the plastic magazine. So I'm looking into the Savage line. Thanks for any info you can pass along.

They are basically the same, other than blued and stainless, the 16 is stainless and 11 is blued.

They are great guns I am getting a rem 700 and after that for a 223 bolt action I am looking at those, they are a great rifle.

Great Choice!!!
