I am looking also. I would like to find a public one where you don't have to shoot through a tube.

Fort Knox does, but not open to the public AFAIK. I shot there years ago for NRA sanctioned High Power Rifle matches.

I see references to RockCastle Shooting Center having distances of up to 1500m. Give them a call.

Scott Mountain range at Ft Knox is open to the public but only for sanctioned matches. Both long range 1,000 yard and NRA highpower.

Waco, TX seems like it would be a bit far from KY.

Must be all those *WHUMP* booms I hear in Shepherdsville. They're 5 miles from my house, judging by the flash and boom time lapse. |

There are two ranges in Crittendon. The "public" one has tubes. there is another one that you need to belong to a club to access. Both are on state owned ground. Never been to the other one so I don't know what it is like.

1000 yard range in KY
Good afternoon, gentlemen. I am a member of the Meade County Sportsmen's Club and the Kentucky State Rifle & Pistol Association. We shoot 1000 yard matches at Fort Knox on Sundays of the weekends that we have our High Power Rifle matches. Take a look at http://kysrpa.org/2010/2010-lr-match-bulletin We have 1000 yard matches scheduled for April 21, 2010, June 13, 2010, July 18, 2010, and Championships on September 12, 2010. If I can be of any further assistance please let me know. DennyMac

I would be happy with a 100-200 yard range I don't have to shoot through tubes.

Most public ranges in KY have long pipes about 24" in diameter you have to shoot through. Kinda intense with a rifle that has a muzzle break.

Boyle County Fish and Game club has a 300 yd range. Only about an hour from Lexington. I joined last week. You can get a membership at Curtsingers Sunrise Outfitters in Danville, Ky. $30 a year.
Someone mentioned the Abrams firing at Fort Knox. Man do I remember that during the rifle matches there. |

The tubes keep someone from shooting over the berm or backstop.
