I can't set a numbers limit. For me I stop when the safe is full.

But then I can always buy a bigger safe.

Around ten is a fair number if they span your interests in terms of caliber. A lot depends on if you hunt or not and what you hunt.

If you get the 22 rifle bug, it is easy to have ten of those depending on your shooting interests.

I have not purchased a new firearm this year. There are a couple I keep my eyes open for but have not been actively searching. I like to let fate influence what firearms I purchase and when. Keeps it interesting.

G35 for the nightstand and some range fun
Buckmark for the range and light critter hunting if need be.
10/22 rifle for same as above

On my short list...
FNAR or 30-06 bolt action for my all-purpose rifle. Still not sure which way I'll go there, depends on how well things die down over the next several months.
Shotgun - its absurd that I have'nt bought one yet considering how versatile they are.
Second G27 - they're very "all-purpose", would be nice to have a spare around.

So yea, I'm easily under 10.

I have a home defense/snake gun (.357 magnum), a back-up emergency gun (.38), and a hog gun (.45 semi auto). I'm good!

But... I am kinda thinking about a .22 long rifle. And maybe someday an old west gun...

One of each is pretty much everything I'd EVER want. Probably wouldn't even get all of them either. I don't see much purpose on having multiple platforms of similar caliber. But that's just me.

I don't know for sure, but it will probably end up being a lot. There are a number of guns I'd like to own for one reason or another, whether or not they're practical enough to shoot frequently.

I'm sure I definitely fall into what their idea of what an arsenal is. I'm in the 31-40 category. And, that's after selling/gifting a bunch.

If I had a kid(s) that was interested in firearms I would have held onto everything and passed them on eventually.

Whereas X is the current amount of guns owned, and Y is the amount needed.

Good for a laugh. As I don't really need any guns, other than maybe my Mini-14 to keep the coyotes in check and defend the house from hypothetical bands of marauders, I don't think I'll ever really stop collecting.

I have no idea. Half of the guns I own now were given to me by family members, they belonged to my grandfathers or great uncles and I just don't shoot them. The number of guns is not really an issue for me, it is the space to store guns as I really don't want to buy another safe. At this point I have pretty much decided it is one in/one out, but that may change in the future (especially if our friends in Washington make it more difficult to sell or trade used guns)

When I die, I hope to have accumulated guns equal to my age.

My daughter can decide haow many she wants after I am gone. She can save them or sell them off.

I've asked myself this many times. I've always figured it would be however many I wanted or could afford. Wanted being the key word in the sentence. But arbitrarily speaking, I see the number being around 200.

I've owned more than 50 but not at one time. I sold some inherited long guns and I regret most sales. I've sold only three guns which I purchased new and I regret all three, especially a Beretta BL-3. I currently have about 40, a couple are valuable, but I'd like to reduce my "collection". I do have two sons-in-law who want all of them, and one of them has a father who has $14,000 bench rest competition rifles and an uncle with the most secure storage I have ever seen for about 200 or so firearms - including a classic collection of pre-64 Winchester Model 70s.

I seem to be holding steady around 45-50. I have started giving .22's away to nieces and nephews that over the years have enjoyed shooting. I think I would enjoy seeing them having fun with them.

I just gave my son a Marlin 30AS, a Mosin-Nagant M44, a Winchester 9422M and a Mossberg 500. He can start enjoying them without having to ask to borrow them each time.

My Daughter and Daughter-in-Law just finished their CPL course and I think I will give them each a 9mm. Again why wait until I'm gone.

I think I will then replace lesser guns with better versions or things I want more. Will probably stabilize are 25-30.

At my age have all I will ever need, I have started giving some to my Grand Children along with instructions on how to shoot them and be a responsible Gun owner. They are loving it!!

There's no magic number for me. If I get a hankering to buy a gun I want and have the funds I buy it. If I lose interest in one I have and neither of my sons show interest in it I'll sell it.

I am kind of surprised that most of the answers are the choices of "1-10" and "more than 75". I think I would like to be closer to the "10" mark if I can figure out what I want to keep most.
