X-sizing die any good?

Has anyone here used RCBS`s X-die? Does it do what they claim -eliminate case stretch? Im thinking of getting one, so I dont have to trim my 308 cases after every sizing, IF it works. Any input would be appreciated.

It's great if you full-length size your cases every firing...

Instead of starting a new topic I figured I drag up this moldly oldy...

I recently got an X-die, and the instructions say that in addition to its normal use, "Partial neck sizing can be be done but only without the X feature." But that's all they say about it. Nothing about how to use it for such.

Is this accomplished by backing the mandrel off, so only the spreader ball contacts the case? I have primarily neck sized my brass prior to this, using a standard full length resizer only occassionaly. The instructions with the X-die now have me confused though...

Thanks in advance,

Yes, the X-dies work great. I use mine for reloading .30/06 rounds for my M1 Garand. I have several firings through the brass I'm using and there has been zero growth and no need to trim.

You should full length resize your rounds if they are being used in a semi-auto, or a big game hunting rifle. You can partial resize for slightly better accuracy (maybe) in say a varmit or target rifle.

I have partially resized rounds for my .30/06 hunting rifle and found no real difference as opposed to doing it full length.

By just backing the mandrel off as I described, or using a neck sizing die?

The question comes down to: Can the X-Die do both neck resizing (and how do you do it), or do I need to get a neck sizing die if I want to size the neck only?

I would imagine you would just back out the mandrel of the x-die to partially resize the case.

I did my partial resizing using the standard full-length die.

Thanks, I'll give it a try. The instructions are none too clear on things like this.
