How far to your Outdoor Range ?

I am 26.2 mile from the the Club range I belong to. It is a nice in the country drive with a few stop signs and turns. 42 minutes driveway to driveway.
It is the closest one.
Then other club I don't belong to is 28.5 mile and involves a little traffic to get to it. Two thirds of the trip would be Intersate, then the traffic. I haven't timed it, but has to be close to the same time to drive and is a more stressful trip.
Where I live everything is either a distance that way or the other way, nothing local.
The congested flat lands of Ohio.

It's five miles from my house to the public range.
It's free and has handgun and rifle ranges.
You can shoot out to 500 yards.

Two indoor ranges are about 17 and 12 miles away - the one that is 17 miles away is in another state (MA) and the second one in (RI) has not opened up yet. It was suppose to open in June, then this week and today they said July 15. They are having some 'discussions' with ATF - even though they were already inspected and approved. I am a founding member but the wait is killing me!

The outdoor range (about 14) is actually one that my son belongs to - He takes me as a visitor. I am waiting for them to 'force' me into membership.

Hate to brag....but...it's just about 15 feet to the back of our deck here on the farm, then it's 25 yds to the fence rails, 100 to the home made berm, and then all the way out to 300+ yds if I've kept up with the mowing. Life's good...Rod

The range I belong to is about 10 miles away, or 20 to 25 minutes drive for me. Not exactly in my backyard, but considering that I am in the northern Illinois I am lucky to have one that close. The closest open range is in Wisconsin, about an hour drive...

The public range is about an hour away and my uncle owns a farm about 1.5 hours from my home. I may join one of the private clubs which are a little closer maybe 45 minutes, but for now I generally make do with indoor ranges five or six within about 20 - 25 minutes.

Re: How far to your Outdoor Range ?

I've got about 20 minutes to two outdoor ranges, 10 to an indoor pistol range, and 30 minutes to my favorite place to shoot. Out there I get to shoot out to 1,000 yards, and if I found a gun capable of shooting 1 mile that is also possible.

It takes me about ten minutes to get from my house to the range I belong to, only goes out to 100 yards but they have regular trap shoots which I have yet to utilize, and it costs about 1/3 of the other three ranges in driving distance, Ones $85 a year, one is $75 a year plus NRA membership required and there is a member limit so there is a waiting list, the new ones $80 a year, plus $1 per gun clean up fee every trip.

Indoor range is about 4-5 miles, outdoor about 50-60 and a one hour drive up into the local mountains. Both decent places to shoot!
There are no "free" places to shoot anymore in SoCal, That stopped maybe 25 years ago.............just too many d@mn people/screwballs out there!

rodfac has me beat.

I have to walk a couple hundred yards, and then I only have a 100 yd range. But, it'll do.

25 miles and it takes about 45 minutes. Traffic has made the trip more difficult but there are surprisingly few other places to go. Have been a member since moving here and it is a really nice place to shoot. Being retired makes it nice to go during the week when the place is almost empty.

9 miles to the club I belong to. It has a combat range, trap range, pistol range both indoor and outdoor, rifle range out to 300 yds, archery range and two fishing ponds with great small mouth bass fishing catch and release only, crappy fishing and you can keep what you catch.

My club range is about 40 miles. A free public range about the same.
A private for-pay range about 25 miles. A club range I don't belong to about 15 miles.
And.....OH, yes .......my own in the yard. About 20 feet from the door.

7 miles and a 10 min drive(no traffic or lights to deal with) to my local DNR range. They have rifle out to 100yds, 10yd pistol, trap, archery and knife/axe throwing lanes. Its $4 all day and kids are free. After that there are lots of other ranges but the ones I go to are a structured one on a state game area an hour away where its free to shoot and you can rapid fire, holster draw etc.. The other place is in a field deep in the woods with a natural backstop on a state game area 45 mins away. That one is where we bring all of our reactive targets and play all day for free.

About an hour. On the freeway.
There are several. All about the same distance, in different directions.
My favorite is 3 days on the motorcycle. Because it's in the middle of nowhere in Utah.
