2 new Colorado gun bills
FYI.
http://www.nraila.org/Legislation/Read.aspx?ID=5344 Friday, January 29, 2010 With session in full swing in Colorado, more pro-gun bills are beginning to move in the State Legislature. Two important pro-gun bills, Senate Bill 51 and House Bill 1094, have been introduced and referred to the appropriate committees, where they currently await action. Sponsored by State Senator Scott Renfroe (R-13), SB 51 would remove the Governor’s ability to “suspend or limit the sale, dispensing, or transportation” of firearms during a declared state of emergency. After Hurricane Katrina, law-abiding gun owners were left defenseless against looters, arsonists and other criminals after the New Orleans police superintendent ordered the confiscation of firearms. We must guarantee law-abiding citizens the ability to defend themselves and their families. Currently, SB 51 has been referred to but has not been scheduled for a hearing in the Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee. On Thursday, February 11, the House Judiciary Committee will hear HB 1094. Sponsored by State Representative Cory Gardner (R-63), HB 1094, would extend Colorado's self-defense law to apply in places of business. If passed, this legislation would permit all employees to defend themselves by any means of force, including deadly force, if they have reasonable belief that an intruder has committed, or intends to commit a crime, during unlawful entry. The exclusion of businesses in the current self-defense law has been a noticeable omission, which this bill seeks to rectify. It is important that you contact the members of the Senate State, Veterans & Military Affairs Committee and urge them to protect the rights of lawful gun owners during states of emergency by setting a hearing date for Senate Bill 51. Also, please contact the members of the House Judiciary Committee and respectfully urge them to support HB 1094.
