Getting rid of sendero stock...Good thumbhole stock?
First off, i have got to get rid of this stock from my sendero .270. Is there any market for them? What should i ask for this thing...perfect shape...
So question is if im looking at getting a new stock and want a thumbhole stock what should i get. Ive got big hands...10" from pinky to end of thumb...and long length of pull. (isnt this measured from the inside of your elbow joint to the first joint in your pointing finger?) It needs to be for a bull barrel, bdl., long action remington 700... Any feedback on the HS precision thumbhole sporter stock? http://www.hsprecision.com/images/greenbigj.jpg Ill use this gun for hunting and target shooting too. And who has some good pics of HS precision stocks...so i can get a good feel for the colors they offer? Thanks for any input. |

I have the Bell & Carlon Premier Thumbhole Sporter stock on my Remington 700 BDL / 7mm Rem.Mag.
It is a fine combination. Here's some links and pix: http://www.bellandcarlson.com/ http://www.bellandcarlson.com/product8.html http://www.hornetproducts.com/ViewPr...Number=T032-02

You should be able to get $125-$150 for your H-S Precison Sendero stock. You might try H-S Precision's website for pics of their thumbhole stocks.

But what appeals to a man in a rifle stock is utterly personal, as we all know.

Try Lawson Gunstocks on Richey Blvd. in Tucson,AZ. Harry Lawson has been making Thumbholes for so many years and is a pioneer in them. Harry, has passed on, but his Son has kept the business going. I have had several of their stocks and think they are the best made. These are not cheap, just the best available and put up by experts in the field.

I like the bell and carlson, have been looking at there page for a while, but just want something with some more thickness in the grip area i think. Although its a good price...What do you all have to say about this company? Im looking for something like i posted in the first post by hs precision...but that stock doesnt come accomodating a long action. Id really even look into a non thumbhole, but vertical grip stock like the one on the top of this page: http://www.bellandcarlson.com/Page8.htm I just dont like the forend, id rather it be more rounded, not sharp edges there... Also, any pics or more info about Lawson stocks, and how much $$ are you talking, im wanting to keep this under or around $350 for sure. Thanks for all the input... Pics of my stock: http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...1/IMG_0420.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...1/IMG_0422.jpg http://i17.photobucket.com/albums/b5...1/IMG_0421.jpg |

Remmy,
The B&C Thumbhole's forend is more squared than round. It doesn't bother me much. I understand the preference for the 'pistolgrip', whether it is in the more traditional form or the thumbhole. I have REALLY BAD arthritis in my thumbjoints and find the thumbhole or pistolgrip more comfortable to hold onto. Harry Lawson made/makes some extra fine equipment, but it ain't cheap. That offer to buy your stock for the guy with the .25-06 is a good one as it will fit his gun. I put a Hogue pillar-bedded stock on my Remington 700 POLICE rifle in .308. WORKS WELL for me. Good Luck!

Sounds like you're a good candidate for the H-S Precision "police" or "P" standard stock. Thicker grip that's more vertical than the Sendero's and a wider forestock.
I doubt if any of the stocks that you're considering will improve your accuracy; your psyche, maybe, your accuracy, probably not. IF you properly torque the action screws on that H-S Sendero stock, it'll perform as well or better than the other stocks mentioned. |

Remmy,
I don't know all the prices, but they are mostly wood stocks and you can get them semi finished and up. You will have toi write for their brochure as I don't think they are on line yet. I have had a couple and more than satisfied. |
