Same here. Thank God for Stainless Steel. I don't enjoy washing the car or the bikes either. Can't count how many times I've spent a cold rainy/snowy day tromping 10 miles thru the woods only to have to come home and clean the water outta my guns and relube them AFTER skinnin' a deer out, only to repeat the process due to nasty weather the next day. I do it, but I don't enjoy it.

When then the gun is new - the initial cleaning - hobby.

after that it's more of a necessary evil.

I'll agree with the previous posters who mentioned quantity - I don't mind doing one or two after a range trip, but it's absolutely tedious if I bring a group of new shooters to the range and I'm the one cleaning a half dozen guns at the end.

Also, some guns are more of a pain than others. I can clean my Ruger Mark II and III pistols as many times as needed because it's simple and fast. My 10/22 on the other hands requires far too much disassembling and I loathe cleaning it.

Revolvers seem so easy to clean I wonder if I'm doing it right. Probably not, given that I pretty much just scrub cylinders and am not even positive on how to get at the trigger mechanisms (probably this sideplate thing I keep hearing about).

I clean every time I shoot. They may wait a few days but every gun, every time. I do find it semi-enjoyable most times. I am single and love the smell of old #9. I just set up in front of the TV in the den and have at it.
I clean them every time because there may come a time when circumstances ( like SHTF) could prevent me from properly cleaning them for extended periods of time and at least they will start out cleaned & lubed. And a dirty gun just bothers the hell out of me.

I enjoy cleaning my weapons because it brings good feelings knowing that I am taking care of something that I expect to operate flawlessly when my life is on the line.

I find it relaxing and clean my guns while watching TV. The only exception is my Ruger MK3. I'm ready to trade it in for a revolver.

People-Slow down and enjoy the one thing you love ( Your guns ). I was always in a hurry to do everything. Drive 500 mph to work,scurry like a rat at work all day,drive 500 mph home,cook,clean,run kids around,ect ect. I finally came to the relization-The one thing i can do slow and find relaxing is ,,Shooting and cleaning my guns, I don't care if it takes me 3 hrs to clean them.
Head down to the man cave and close the door,turn on some county music and clean. I never find it a task as much as i find it fun and relaxing.

If you people are like me,,If you get it done to fast,,then what?? Mow the grass,shovel the snow,clean,run kids around,ect ect..Which would you rather do?.. I will clean my guns all dayyyyyyyyyyy

Cleaning guns is about as much fun as changing the oil in my Jeep in a muddy driveway.

I don't mind cleaning. I'm a bit of a neat freak so having a dirty pistol is painful for me. That said, I don't get out the microscope and get every little bit of dirt out. Just like it clean and functional.

For me, it's part of the hobby. Turn on some great music, grab a glass of wine, and detox my guns and my brain. I agree with ChaseReynolds as well: "because it brings good feelings knowing that I am taking care of something that I expect to operate flawlessly when my life is on the line."

To me it seems to be a chore to sit down and get started, but once i do i enjoy it, its part of the deal,you shoot it you clean it.

It's a hobby for me. It helps me relax and hold onto the joy of shooting a little while longer. Heck I enjoy it so much I clean my family's guns for them half the time.

But, setting aside the time to clean them can be difficult. As John said... I don't exactly look forward to it. (And there's usually some serious procrastination, or I just outright ignore the issue and pretend I never got them dirty.)

I actually have that same problem right now. Put a quick 60 rounds through my Daniel Defense M4V1, now I'm pretending it didn't happen because I don't want to take apart an AR for 60 rounds.

If I told my girl that cleaning my guns was a hobby.. I would have 5 more hobbies..... laundry..washing dishes, mowing the lawn, vaccuming, giving the dog a bath.

I tell her it is a necessity to ensure the proper function of a life saving device and our well being.

I clean my barrels. I lube the gun, that spray stuff. Work it baby, if they have to be cleaned every time? Get rid of it.

Shoot away and forget about it!
