I loaded some practice ammo for my Blackhawk; 7.1 gr. 231, 255 gr lswc, wlp primers. This is a max.(?) load according to Win. data.
I started to load a few cases with 8 grains ( according to John Linebaugh's writing) but I got cold feet and didn't do it. Has anyone out there any experience with the 8 grain load; I'd sure appreciate any feedback.. Thanks, Mike M. |

FWIW, Speer #12 lists 8.0 grains of 231 as max for the 250 lswc. Your Blackhawk will be able to take that load in stride and ask for more.

The Winchester manual doesnt go above 7.1. For plinking in my 45, I like Unique.

Sort of 'Off-topic' but...
I'm trying to select a powder that
is versatile and clean-burning. 231 is versatile, but is it a clean powder? Oh, for a .45 Colt of course. Thanks, Sgt.K |

While we're on the subject guys, I don't own or have access to a chronograph. Does anyone know or can you estimate muzzle velocity for a 265 gr. hard cast bullet over 7.5 gr. of WW231? I'm shooting a new Blackhawk and am looking for about 1000fps with this bullet. I'm loading virgin Starline brass.
Thanks a lot, Viejo
