New MKIII 22/45... WOW!
Was looking for a .22 range 'plinker' so I got a Ruger.
Just came back from the range with my new MKIII 22/45 and after about 300-rnds (100-CCI and 200 Fed)... WOW! A flawless, very accurate shoot! This is really one sweet .22. Has the 1911 'feel' and is much lighter than the MKIII... and was priced right. Just finished the initial clean-up and field-strip... wasn't bad at all. Read the instruction-book and watched Ruger's video (youtube)... Only real 'pain' was removing and reinserting the Housing Latch, other than that, all was good... I'll never complain about a 1911 field-strip again!! Would highly recommend this pistola for anyone looking for an easy-to-shoot, accurate .22! |

Nice little write up and nice gun. I've been looking into this model a pretty good bit. How was the accuracy?

Accuracy was great!... I usually shoot at the 10 and 20 yard marks...
At 10-yds, after about 5+ rounds to get the feel, I was grouping at 2-3"... and at 20-yds, a consistent 3". For me, it's a very accurate pistol! I've had a MKI and a III, but this is a much lighter feel (w/ poly frame) and with the new '1911 style' grip angle, I actually like it better than the III. If you can rent one at a range, try it, I think you'll be surprised! |

After shooting an 'all-metal' MKIII, the 22/45 can feel alittle 'top-heavy'... but for me, I actually like its feel and shoot it better... but that's me!

Are they drilled for scope mounts?

I prefer the standard shape MKIII, but either are awesome range guns and great to practice fundamentals on.

Why do you call it a MKIII 22/45? Either it is a MKIII or it's a 22/45. Not trying to be a SA, just wanting to know.

They are 2 distinct models. The 22/45 mimics the 1911 frame configuration and is a polymer frame. The others have steel frames and a different grip angle. Look in the picture above to see both.
I have a Standard MKIII and love it. Wish I had picked one up years ago. |

UZO,
You will enjoy this gun! I topped mine with a Buschnell Trophy Red Dot and she drops bowling pins at 100 yards... Rugmar, FYI, MK III is a family of Rugers... the one pictured above is a MK III 22/45 TB, the one below is a stainless steel MK III Hunter.

The MK designation is a generation monniker, similar to Gen 1/2/3/4 Glocks. It applies to the polymer and steel models.
I had a MkII and III 22/45. Technically the latest model should be a MkIV. |

great buy
Had so much fun with my stainless target model that I went and bought the 10/22 stainless carbine also I knowww... not so covert with all the shine, oh well. I've well over 5000 RDS through the pistol and I've had this gun not much more that a year.
Using the 22/45 pistol at 25 yards: rested, scoped, and with match ammo- I've achieved 10 shot groupings under 0.75 inch. That being with no trigger mods etc. Damn tac Driver! Last edited by m_liebst; February 15, 2012 at 09:40 PM. |

Is it the same line as these? http://ruger.com/products/2245Target/models.html
A local dealer has the 10140 model number for $299. I'm tempted to pick it up. Worth it? |

Yup.. mines the kp series ( Stainless) "kp512" for 5.5 inch bull barrel. All I can say is that I won't sell mine. A well built accurate gun that eats cheap bulk ammo with-out hitches or malfunctions.
You might be able to get one for some less. Ya might think that its a bit high just for a .22lr rimfire cartridge. but the gun will last a life time with proper care. Heard of owners who've claimed to have 100 k+ down the pipe. |

Weird, 10140 appears to be the 5.5" with replaceable grips, but the site says nothing about the rail. That sounds like what I want! Wish it came in stainless.

Hello ScotchMan,,,
I recently (November 2011) purchased a pair of MK-III 22.45's from Buds Gun Shop,,,
They have replaceable cocobola grips, target sights, 5.5" slab-side barrel, stainless steel. This is the model number from BudsGunShop website,,, Ruger 22LR 5.5 BULL SS10145,,, Click here please. The nomenclature says "BULL" but they were slab-side barrels,,, Their website says "out of stock". If you go to the Ruger website,,, They don't show any stainless steel 22/45's. And none are the slab-side versions,,, They are all bull barrel instead. I'm glad I got mine when I did,,, They really are beautiful. Buds does have the same basic pistol as mine,,, But in bull rather than slab-side,,, And doesn't have the wood grips. They do have one that has a 5.5" stainless steel fluted barrel,,, It does come with interchangeable wood grips,,, It's pricier but very a attractive gun,,, Click here please. Since I didn't see any stainless steel 22/45 models on Ruger's website,,, I am going to assume they have discontinued the line,,, You might want to pick one up while they last. Happy gun hunting. Aarond P.S. Look in the "features" section for the 22/45 pistols,,, Quote:
Mine did. .

I had a 22/45 4 inch tapered barrel with fixed sights that was terrible until I forced 535 rounds through it.
The back, bottom of the magazine also got caught on my palm everytime I released it. I know I just got one of the bad ones but I owned a blued all steel 5 inch bull barrel one twenty years ago with the mag latch on the bottom that was flawless and so accurate it was actually boring to shoot. Anyway,I sold my 22/45 after I got the bugs out so I could sell it without feeling bad. Glad yours is working so well. Maybe buying a better model first is the key. |

22/45 is a great gun. A buddy at KRRC recently put a mod on his. It is a speed strip kit Take a look at MajesticArms.com website
They make a SPEED STRIP kit for all the Ruger MK series pistols. For the 22/45 get the full kit. It will improve the trigger, which is already pretty good, but with the kit it gets better. The instructions are clear and easy to follow. At least it looks that way when I read them. I am ordering one as a gift. |

I love my 22/45TB model with sights, I think I may have to go with a MajesticArms.com speed strip kit, I watched the video and liked it alot.
