Mossberg 590 bayonet?
I have seen that the Mossberg 590 shotguns will accept a bayonet. I would like to know what kind(s), not that this would be useful or would it?
thanks jj |

I thought they used the same bayonet as the AR-15?

The 590A1 with the 20" bore has an "accessory" (bayonet) lug. I'm not confident that the regular 590 does as well, though I do know that models with an 18" bore do not have the lug.
It wil accept a standard M7 bayonet, available at Natchez for $24.75 with sheath. |

Before you mount those pig stickers and sally forth....
One of the complaints against the early M-16s in Nam was that the bbl would bend if the bayonet was used. M-16 bbls are stiffer and more rugged than shotgun, bbls, even the thicker ones like the 590s. Enthusiastic use of the bayonet may leave one with a bent bbl. Why not leave this alone and carry one of Cold Steel's Assegais, if you must have a sticker? |

I have to try my M1917 bayonet to see whether it'll fit. While none of us are likely to do a bayonet charge, it's all in the name of fun to have one and shotguns should have big pigstickers.

In order for the round handled M9-type bayonets to fit, a small portion of the barrel retaining nut will have to be ground down. M7s and similar grip profiles work without modification.

CHEAPERTHAN DIRT.COM
Got my M7 bayonet there for under $8. Sheath was extra.
Dave McC--I hope I never have to test your hypothesis, but if so I'll let you know the results. The 590A1 barrel looks highly bend-resistant. Regards to all. |
