1862 Colt 36. cal. Police
Bought this years ago.
Does anyone know who made it? I've been looking around the web, and can't find any with nickel plated trigger guard, and back strap. |

Looks like a Pietta made in 94. What does the barrel address say?

Sure is a pretty thing
The BD date code is 1994. I think that is after both ASM and ASP stopped making revolvers. I could be wrong.
That makes it either Pietta or Uberti.

On the right side of the barrel, just above the loading lever, it says,
A.S.M.BLACK POWDER ONLY CAL. 36 MADE IN ITALY Did the originals come with nickel plating, or is this just a fanatasy gun? |

Armi San Marco
I thought they went out of bidness in BP revolvers before 93. Just goes to show how wrong I can be.
I like ASM revolvers. Have a lot of them and like shooting and maintaining them. The one in the photo may have had some work done on it. Don't know if and which ones Colt put a nickel plated back strap and trigger guard on. Sure is a nice looking pistol though.

Nope...never been worked on.
I bought it brand new years ago cause I liked the way it looked, and it's size. Oh...and it's never been fired. (I guess I should take it out back and fire it once, just to say I have. Sure feels sweet in the hand) This forum has me looking at B.P. guns again! Boy is the wife gunna be mad! lol Saw a nice used left handed caplock Hawkin style rifle at my gunsmiths last week that keeps calling to me! lol |

ASM went out of business in 2002 or there abouts.
Original (1st Generation) Colt's could be had with brass, (silver) plated brass, or blued iron BS/TG. IIRC, standard finish on Picket Police and Pocket Navies was silver plated. An ASM from 1994 should be pretty good. Wasn't till later that their quality began to slide. BTW, nice one.

Nice looking Police Pocket - I owned one once that was identical to yours only in a brass frame (ASM). The fit/finish on the one I had was great and the grip was some very nice walnut with curl. These are a nice little revolver. I've had several ASM '51s that were nice as well.

Unless I am mistaken, Colt did German Silver on the backstrap and trigger guard. It won't stain as would brass.
I agree, nice gun. |
