13 anti-gun bills just passed NYS assembly on 4/28/09

-Includes .50 Cal or larger ban / mandatory turn-in, (What's next?)
-Microstamping, (can you say much more expensive handguns?, and what's to stop a criminal from using a file on the firing pin?)
-Mandatory "childproofing", locking up of guns, (This was rulled against in the Heller case)
-5 year renewal for pistol permit with mandated safety course (govn't money maker)
-and some modification to the NYS AWB, I'm not sure of the details...

Not sure when this goes to the NY Senate for vote, but this year the senate has a Democrat majority, so they could pass them...

Please, everyone in NY state, call and email your ny state legislators...

I love "prohibiting felons from buying guns". I was under the impression that it is already illegal for felons to posses guns. so how is making it illegal to buy them different or going to make a criminal say whoa, i know i cant be in possession of a gun, but i can buy one, even though by buying one you would be in possession there for committing a crime.

Regaurding "cop killer bullets"

"to provide that a person is guilty of
criminal possession of a weapon in the third degree when such person
knowingly possess and intends to use any devastator ammunition,
frangible ammunition, and any armor piercing ammunition."

The childproofing provision in A01326 appears to comply with Heller in that it places the burden on the sellers and manufacturers of firearms, rather than on the owner:

This bill would prohibit the sale of pistols or revolvers by any person, firm or corporation in the retail business of selling guns which does not contain child proofing features built into the design of the gun. The prohibition would apply to pistols or revolvers manufactured twelve or more months after the effective date of the bill. Design features could include the capacity to adjust the trigger resistance of the gun to at least a ten pound pull, the capacity to alter the firing mechanism so that an average five year old child's hand would be too small to operate the gun, or the capacity to require a series of multiple motions in order to fire the gun. A violation ofthis provision would be a class A misdemeanor.

Frangable ammo is a saftey bullet, not a cop killer what dolts in office. and most H.P. rifles can defeat a vest unless it has plates or ceramic in it.

The level of deceit used to pass these sorts of laws is reprehensible. It's a shame politicians can't be sued for libel against a class of people (gun owners).

willing to produce microstamp structures on semiautomatic pistols for a

Why? Because it's actually not all that bad here. Most out-of-staters seem to have no idea that New York City and the rest of the state are different places.

NY is MORE gun friendly than many states.

These bills come up virtually every year. Most always they die in committee. The whole "OMG, there a democratic assembly" is nonsense. NY almost always has a democratic assembly. Most of them are not the rabid anti-gun nutbags that bring up these bills. Usually these bills come from the never-been-out-of-NYC liberal elitists and the rest of the upstate people pretty well shut them down.


In short, yes, we NYers should oppose these bills actively. No, it is not the end of the world, the sky is not falling.

This bill has gotten a little to far for comfort, but it's not over yet.
