.22LR at 300 yards

Didn't believe it till I saw it myself. With a M&P15-22 and EOTECH optics I watched a shooter drop shots into a 18 inch bull at 300 yards. 13 out of the 20 shots fired broke paper. When the wind picked up the shots went everywhere. I watched one trace actually change direction twice. Cadence fired shots followed each other into the paper. And it wasn't even match ammunition. So,for me, the answer is yes. The .22 will reach 300 yards.

Depends on what you need it to do.

Drop an Elk...probably not.

Drop Yot sized game....possibly.

Cause mayhem in a group of riotous pirates......yes.

Wonder how much time it took for him to get that zeroed in. I wonder if the EOTECH can even adjust for that kind of drop. If I remember correctly a standard high velocity .22LR drops something like 40 inches at 200 yards and triples to 120 inches at 300 yards. Sure he didn't have a buddy with a .223 somewhere down the line shooting at his target? But seriously, that is some awesome shooting.

A 22 LR will float even further but it is too wind sensitive and low power to be counted on at long range.

Occasionally I read of kids being killed due to .22LR's floating around in the city at extreme range. Other kids, or gang bangers just firing into the air.

Don't get carried away by the 120" drop that only amounts to 42.8 minutes of angle. (I get 128" of drop out of my rifle using Remington Gold 40 gr bullets) Most decent scopes should be able to accommodate that and a shim under the front will make up for it if your adjustment is lacking. The Eotech should have 40+/- minutes of adjustment from its center setting so a 43 MOA adjustment is just out of reach if you are using a 50 yard zero. With the eotech zeroed at 200 yards he only has to account for 88" or just a hair under 30MOA. 1 full revolution of the knob gives you 10 MOA so use that for a start and save yourself a lot of counting. It's doable.

No way that chart can be right about wind drift with a 5 mph wind. A five mph wind change will blow you out of the ten ring at 50 yards and 100 yards. Shot lots of 3 O'Clock and 9 O'Clock nines in small bore prone.

You can hear it too, from the groans that come off the firing line when a gust, or a layoff occurs just as shooters put one down range.

Sput!...pause....Groan!
