smilies
I'm almost too embarrassed to ask- how do you put the smilies in your post?

After you hit the reply or new thread buttons, you will notice a little herd of smilies off to the right of the text entry :barf: box. When you want one, click on the one that tickles your fancy, and it will appear in the text box at the point where your cursor is.
It won't look right in the text entry box (usually like a couple of punctuation marks run together) , but when it posts, the smiley (or smilies) will appear. And, if you count the smilies in this post, you will know how many of them you can include in a single post. Yes, there is a "per post smiley quota". Actually, it's more of a "per post image feature quota", if you use other image features in a post, you'll have to cut back on your smiley usage.

I originally tried to post 6 smilies in this post too, but it wouldn't let me because the image counts against my total. [edit1]Yes... that would be the image that's not showing properly...[/edit1] [edit2]Darn! Still not showing.[/edit2] [edit3]What the heck?[/edit3] [edit4]Ok, I only know about smilies. Forget about the image stuff.[/edit4] [edit5]I wanted to put some smilies in my edits, but I was over my quota for this post...[/edit5]

Whaaaatteeevvveerrr you do, don't do what I did for my first few weeks on TFL. I was trying to show the persons who posted a thoughtful idea that I totally agreed with them. I used the smilie that I thought looked like a guy thinking . I got a WHOLE LOT of angry responses and I was very which made me . You see the smilie that looks like this , means sarcasm (just in case you didn't know either )

The use of smilies can really color your posts.
They can soften criticism, show you're ill over something, :barf: shocked, not sure or asking a question, think something is A-OK, or even tell someone yer kidding around a bit. All without typing a word.

Thanks I tried it got the funny url thing and was all confused. http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...e=1&p=1563026#
Confused . I'll try it again and see how that works. I want to use them to show what I'm thinking sometimes, 'cause no one can see what I'm thinking when I post, regardless of how many gestures I make at the screen. Thanks guys! http://www.thefiringline.com/forums/...e=1&p=1563026# Big Grin |
