Need help with an old 38 special, S&W
Hi, new to this forum, NOT new to guns. I am looking for help with an old 38 Special revolver. It is Blued, a six shot, Serial number 7603XX on the bottom of the grip, classic Smith and Wesson stamp on side of barrel, 4" barrel, has a small laynard like buckle on the bottom of grip and a 2 piece hammer?. I will try and get some pics shortly. Thanks for your time

With that serial number in .38 Special, it almost has to be a Military and Police revolver (predecessor to the Model 10), made in late 1941.

Missed this one completely.
Jim is absolutely correct, except that given those attributes -- serial, lanyard ring on the butt, cartridge, it can't be anything but a pre-Model 10.
