This post could very well be VERY bad for many of our wallets. I suggest we shut this thread down now!

For those that asked about my black 1911, it is one of the earlier S&W 1911Sc's with a pair of VZ Recon grips and some skateboard tape on the front of the grip. It was my first and favorite pistol, every time someone shoots it they make an offer. It is my EDC, either in a Galco Combat Master or a Milt Sparks Summer Special. Here it is by itself.

If I were you, I wouldn't part with it for less than 300 bucks. I'll offer 350.

[Edit]

In all seriousness, what kind of offers do you get?

The serious offers are usually around $900-100. I paid just under 800 for it in early 2005, I think the new ones are selling around 1200. I just like it too much to let it go.

During one of my deployments my father was keeping it in his safe for me, but decided to bring it to his Bullseye league one night, as after the match they typically just bs and shoot for fun. Apparently his team mates didn't want to let him leave with it, he almost had to fight them off.

I know it won't compete with the fully custom 1911's, but it is one heck of a great pistol, and I doubt I will ever be shooting at the level where it is my pistol that is holding me back.

Lord, go to photobucket.com and make a free account. Then when you upload pics they tell you how to inline them in posts.

I prefer attachments sometimes though.

Sgt127,
Your Gov't model and 4" RM have me drooling. Is that the original finish on the 4"? It looks absolutely amazing.

Seriously though

What do you fellas use to post such beautiful pictures? Certainly not a camera phone that washes out colors and makes your lovelies look brown.

The pictures of my 1911 and all the revolvers were indeed taken with the camera on my Samsung Galaxy SIII, the key is to choose a background that provides good contrast, turn off the flash, and use good lighting. I use a white wall that reflects light as a backdrop for my photos and two table lamps at the bottom corners to provide a sort of three-point lighting. You also need to hold the camera as steady as possible (a tripod is preferable if you have one) so as to prevent the images from being blurry. Finally, the editing features on photobucket are useful to clean up imperfections in the images.

There was another member, Playboypenguin, who no longer posts here that took some of the best gun pictures I've ever seen (they make mine look very amateur) and he posted a very detailed tutorial that you might be able to find throught he search function.

Thanks, Webley, good tips. I'll remember those for the next Pistol Party I'll look for Play's tips but don't fault yourself, your pics are pro-quality.

No...sadly. It appears it was ordered in 1936 and, according to the stamps on the butt, refinished at the factory in 1958. It also originally shipped with a 6" barrel.

By best guess? It was issued in 1936, the trooper carried until he retired, bought (or was given the gun), sent it back to the factory for a shorter barrel and a reblue (a 4" would be a lot handier as a retirement gun than a 6") and then never actually carried it again, maybe shot it a few times.

The 5" originally went to the Louisiana SP as I recall. It wound up in Dallas where a Policeman carried it. He finally retired as a Deputy Chief. Got it direct from the family. In all its well worn glory....

No problem and thanks for the compliments. I also found Playboypenguin's how-to thread for you (it has some examples of his work so you can see the difference between his and mine).

Twisters (come alongs). A single hand "handcuff". You flip it over the wrist of the arestee, the two "T's" interlock and, by twisting the chain, you would gain compliance when pressure was applied to the wrist bones. Quite effective. And, if used a little too much gusto, would break bones.

Hey k511, Nice looking early Colt M1911. Looks like an under 285,000 serial number pistol.
