WA Background Check Stalls IN House

The Washington background check bill has stalled in the house after a legislator withdrew her support. A "reactionary mistake", imagine that!!!!

Wow, I want to bookmark that. Like we've said on TFL before- Some liberals like guns, some conservatives don't. While this bill is probably not overly bad, you see a Republican wrote it, a Republican abandoned it, and a Democrat just wants it to go away.

Given the way gun shows work in WA state, the law would mandate what the gun shows do voluntarily, an are unlikely to change. Right now, they hold the gun show to drive up membership.. can't buy or sell firearms at their show without being a member, can't be a member without getting a bg check- State CPL works.. but you can't show your CPL and buy, you have to join then buy. Which is why the gun show isn't changing.

Without having read the bill, I'm going on some generalizations. Most LEO favor universal BG checks, and stop there. Some of our legislative kooks wan to make it unpalatable to the fence sitters. Assuming my biased impression based on hopes, dreams, and generalizations here is correct, I wouldn't throw a temper tantrum if it passed, but it really wouldn't do anything but mandate what is already being done at additional cost.

Just to clarify about Washington State gun shows : the Washington Arms Collectors, a private club, sponsors several large shows in the state each year. Only club members can purchase or sell guns at these shows. Membership comes with a NICS check and ID badge.

Other shows are sponsored by other vendors, and any entrant can buy or sell as long as they are in compliance with the gun laws. The dealers at these shows are still required to do NICS checks.
