357 sig conversion barrel

OK guys I hate to admit it but here it goes, you know the ones who say I am a long "lurker" but first time poster, well damn as it turns out I am one of "them". The way I look at it is if your specific can be answered buy doing a search then by god do the search without bothering anyone, right?

Well I did not find the answer to this one, I have a SA XDM 3.8 IN 40 S&W and that is what I have been using as my CCW for 2 years or so. I thought I would try the 357 SIG conversion barrel in it just because I was curious about the round.

Out of the first 14 Winchester White box 125 grain rounds that I fired 2 of them split the necks. I fired 10 more and no split necks.

I went and bought 100 rounds of Speer Lawman 125 grain TMJ and have shot 15 of those without issue.

My inquiry is should I be worried, I did not spend 641.00 bucks on this nice gun just for it to be screwed up by my wandering ballistic mind????

Sometimes bottle neck cartridge case necks split if not properly annealed.
Nothing to worry about unless it becomes a habit with various brands of ammo.

I don't know. I've shot thousands of 357 Sig rounds and never seen a split neck/case. Course I didn't examine many spent cases but never seen one split.

I wonder if there was a small burr or similar in the chamber, considering it happened at first and then stopped?

I wouldn't be too concerned, unless I was hoping to reload them. A split neck in a casing is much different than a ruptured head or anything like that.

clean the chamber aggressively with a bore brush, keep shooting and see if it keeps up. could be an oversize chamber, so if it becomes a problem, might need to measure or just contact the barrel maker. but, it's not going to cause damage to the gun so long as it's holding the bullet in place through loading

Sounds like good advice above. I have modest experience (a few hundred rounds) with. 357 Sig, but have never seen a split case neck.

My gut reaction is the chamber is out if spec. If the case neck has enough room to split, something is wrong.

I've shot a few thousand rounds of 357 SIG out of a factory barrel and a Barsto barrel in my P239, I've never seen one split.
