Akm firing pin interchangability
Can i use an east german or polish firing pin in my wasr even though it is .003 longer. Firing pin protrusion is 1.48mm. I just dont know if the cone shape is the same, or if that even matters. Can someone help me out with something?

If it's only the tip that's longer, that's no big fix/modification. If the length is in another area, that might mean some careful machining.

Firing pin protrusion is good but it is 3.2845 and the stock one is 3.2830. Should I make the pin the same length as stock by filing the tail end of the firing pin. The flat end not the tip obviously. What do u think

So I took some 1500 grit wet sand paper last night and filed the flat end of my firing pin to match the stock ones length. I think this was a good route and there should be no problems..hopefully not, I made it 3.2830 just like stock. What is your opinion?

Worrying about a firing pin being .0015 longer is overthinking it.
Whats more important is the shape and length of the nose. You want the same protrusion, and the same shape behind the nose, so that the area that stops forward movement is the same, and wont peen or wear down, causing more protrusion in short order. Then, the step where the cross pin retains and limits rearward movement should be the same. This is so it can retract enough to not cause slam fires from always protruding, but not too much to have the end getting caught on other parts hanging out the bolt, or causing slam fires from flying forward a long distance. If you checked the oal of 10 ak firing pins, theyd likely vary more than .0015. |

Well I used this firing pin in my other WASR and it has better firing pin strikes. I shaved the rear end to match stock on the new firing pin. But I did order a new romy firing pin, Reason I had to change firing pin from stock is because the stock one had a burr in it that I did not like.

So the cone is very slightly larger at the largest part of the polish firing pin compared to stock romanian. Should I just stick with stock. I have used these Polish pins in my other WASR and it makes a perfect strike with no issues. I understand the cone not wanting to be different. All websites say any akm firing pin will work with my WASR but so far I have doubt.

Firing pin update
So I sanded the flat end of the Polish pin to the same size as the stock Romy one (also have another Romy AKM firing pin on the way just in case) and it works great and the cone shape definatly fits like a glove inside the bolt. For those of you WASR owners out there, get a Polish firing pin from Apex, they are machined great. Only reason I took this path is because my stock pin had a huge burr in the tip and didn't want to pop primers. Polish pin works great. When it was new I measured firing pin hole, after close to 1000 rounds today I measured it again and no change so the Polish pin is good to go. Maybe some of you WASR owners will like this. By the way my second WASR firing pin hole measures .00850 +/-.00005 and my first one is a little larger and not beveled like the new one, it measures I think .00880. I love these things.
