Yes. There is a provision carved out specifically for shipping firearms to and from gunsmith. However, using UPS may wind up costing you more than you want. You can ship a long gun USPS much cheaper.
Edit: State laws may be more restrictive than fed. I was only stating fed rules. |

I don't know if this is required, but it is quite common for the clerk at your UPS or Fedex office to ask to see a copy of the recipient's FFL.

direct ship
You are not buying a gun? It is already yours?
A few years ago I rebarreled a Mini 14. I shipped it direct to the repair person and he direct shipped it back. If I remember correctly, if you are shipping your own gun in for repair. it can be shipped directly back to you. Others here on the board will set us both straight as needed.

All perfectly legal, but some FFLs will not accept shipments from individuals regardless of the legality, so you should contact them to make sure it's OK (maybe you have already).

In fact I did exchange e-mail with Stu Wright (wrightsgunsmiths.com) to that effect day-before-yesterday,
and did go by the local UPS center yesterday to inquire before shipping today. Both said (in effect), 'bring it on.' I also find that you can look up/get any FFL#/Owner through the ATF. http://www.atf.gov/content/firearms/...y/listing-FFLs Will let folks know if any hiccups.... I've never heard of a gunsmith who wouldn't accept a gun directly from a customer, because they can ship it directly back. |
