Long term Gun storage question

Do those silicon impregnated gun socks provide good long term storage?

I use them but only for transporting to the range.
I wouldn't trust them by themselves for long term storage. Heavy greasing is still, IMHO, the only way to go.

Coat the guns with RIG grease. No socks bags or any of that stuff.
I swear by the RIG grease. Thats what its made for

NO. Brush a good coat of Breakfree Collector or Eezox on the gun and store it in open air. Not in a basement or attic. Grease will work also but then if you want to use the gun you got to clean that stuff off. With Breakfree or Eezox you just grab and go. Anything that can absorb moisture from the air on a humid day will transfer it to the gun. (including a sock or foam or fabric) If you're talking about "burying" a gun that's a whole 'nother deal.

Rig Gun grease. My buddy put three coats on a 10/22 that he had removed the blue and polished. He rubbed in each coat of Rig until you couldn't feel it. He left it in his safe in San Francisco. Very humid there with salt air thanks to the fog. After three years there was no rust at all. Go Rig if you're going to shoot it. If you never shoot it, use Rennaisance Wax instead.

Stored a Remington 760 Gamemaster for 10 years in a closet in MA & FLA and used just RIG grease 10 years later zero rust, nada, zillch. When I removed it from the closet and wiped it down it looked like the day I greased it and put it away

When I was on order abroad, I place the guns in a steel security box in my basement with dehumidifier operating 24-7.
I cleaning the guns prior to storage and apply heavy coat of Break Free solvent/lubricant within all internal components; and after putting all the parts back together, I applied some mil-surplus oil (cheaperthandirt) on top of it.

I cleaned all of them again before I activate them back to service.
