7mm bullets
Recently purchased a browning a bolt in 7mm. The guns main purpose will be target shooting and hunting. Looking for some bullet weights and powder preferences for this beast. Thanks

you weren't specfic about which 7mm
I assume you're referring to a 7mm mag, the original loading by Remington for this round was a non canister lot of IMR7828. The non canister powders are only available in huge lots to ammunition manufactures such as Remington, the canister version of IMR7828 is available to the hand loader in either 1 or 8 pound jug. I was more than pleased with this powder, you can expect outstanding accuracy in this caliber! Always start at the starting charge and quit when your satisfied with grouping, for me a max charge rarely produces best accuracy. I prefered the Nosler 150gr Solid base SP and Partition bullets which gave very good accuracy out of my Winchester Model 70 Classic.. William

For 7mm Mag, I use H4831SC powder. Hunting pronghorn / whitetail sized game I use Nosler 140gr Ballistic Tip bullets. For target shooting, I have found the 162gr Hornady A-Max bullets to be very accurate. Someone here on this forum turned me on to the A-Max bullets, and used the phrase “jaw dropping accuracy”. That person was correct.

Bullet weight really depends on what you're hunting. For deer sized game 140-160 grain are most accepted weights. For elk sized creatures 160-175 seem to be preferred. As for powder 4831 has done well for me.

In my rifle I have got decent results with IMR 4350, 150 grn Ballistic-Tips and Partitions.
I have also been experimenting with 150 grn Swift Sirrocco II's, IMR 4350 it didn't like that), IMR 4831,(nope not that one either), IMR 7828, (got loads ready but not tested), H4831 sc,(got some loads ready but not tested), H1000 (have not loaded any of this powder yet) stay tuned! And then I moved along to the 160 grn Accubond bullet, and I'm trying H4831 sc, Imr 7828, Imr 4831, Imr 4350, and some H1000. ( I just love going to the range) I know that when I find this load for the Swift bullet and the heavier Accubond, I'll move on to a heavier bullet.

So far for deer the only thing I have tried is H4831 under 160 GR. Sierra Game Kings. My load development has been slack lately.

My sons rifle, a Savage 111FV likes IMR 4831 and 140 Nosler Ballistic Tip bullets with CCI LRM primers. Very accurate. 4831 of either flavor is one of the go-to powders for the 7mm Remington Magnum.

RE-19, RE-22, IMR 4350, H4350, Retumbo, IMR 7828, and a few others that I can't call to mind. Sierra, Nosler, Berger, Hornady, 120-160 grain pills all work very well in the 7mm rem mag. Lotsa options. Go to 6mmbr.com, click the appropiate tab on the left and read the article from the beginning to the end. Good info.
