New SRH 454 Target Grey

New to me anyway, picked this like new beauty up for 750 at my lgs. Really digging the finish with the camo wood insert grips. Only ran 45 colt through it so far but seems to shoot well and the trigger isnt too much heavier than my blackhawk 357. Cant wait to run some Grizzly Cartridge 300 grain 454s moving at 1750 outta this rig

should be fun for me and my wrists!

Great gun. Get yourself a Hogue Tamer grip if you are gonna run full tilt.

this is kinda going to take the role of my do everything gun, I keep it next to my bed loaded with 45 colt critical defense, I plink cowboy loads with it, and come deer season i look forward to using it.

Great gun. I have the same one. Except I don't have those grips. I really like the looks of those. Full power 454s are fun to shoot for about 3 or 4 shots. After that, you are wishing it was over.

i have the same exact gun,but mine is a .480 ,and i am going to get the hogue tamer grips for it as well....

Mine was exactly like yours, except that I mounted a red dot sight on mine for hunting, and carried it in a Bianchi Ranger 4100 H.U.S.H. ( HUnting Shoulder Holster), a cross-chest, bandollier-type Cordua Nylon holster with a choice of either a retention strap or flap.

Mine easily kept a cylinderful of whatever on a coffee cup, from a rest, out to my personal handgun limit (100yds).

Those factory rubber bumpers work just great, since I never found the need for anything else, even with full-house .454 loads.

BTW - if you don't reload, the Winchester 250gr JSP .454 Casull load is a nice mid-range load, suitable for Whitetails.

Their POI shot pretty close to .45 Colt CorBons, in my SRH.

ordered hogue monogrip and cheap uncle mikes holster for under 40 dollars from ctd

buddy and I are thinking of heading to alabama for a hog hunt sometime in the next few months, possibly ordering some 400 gr double taps to take with me, anyone have experience with these?

only shot in my backyard so far, from distances of 10 yds to about 50. Had no problem hitting bottles and cans that I had set up with 45 colts, taking it to an IR nearby on friday i think, should be nice to light off some 454s inside

I have a 7.5 SRH in 454. Great revolver. It is snappier than my 460 X-frame. I hunt with my SRH more than anything else.

I highly recommend hand loading for it though. It is so nice to tailor your own custom loads for it. It saves big $$ as well. I only use Casull brass. I jus down load it. A 300 grain lead WFN at 1300 fps is very mild and lethal on deer sized game.

Even at our outdoor range, I use earplugs AND earmuffs, especially when I am NOT the one shooting, but alongside the shooter. (My 454 Casull and my friend's 500 S&W)

I have the Hogue Tamer grip on my 454 SRH. It's quite uncomfortable for me. Under recoil I feel the thin finger width strip of sorbothane smashing into my hand. It feels like holding a 1/2" piece of wood and letting someone smack it with a hammer.

I was on the hunt for a grip with a wider back strap. I grabbed the grip off a friend's GP100 and it was far more comfortable for my hands.
If I keep the SRH I may get one of those grips. However, I'm considering trading/selling the gun for a Redhawk in 45 Colt.

i really like the look of the redhawk ruger makes in 45 colt with the 4.2" barrel. would be a nice do it all piece. for my next gun i was thinking possibly a blackhawk 5.5" in 45 colt.

and i just ordered the regular monogrip, not the tamer. I should get it weds so ill see how it works for me.

Now download your SRH .454. Easy to do if you reload.

For most things a 250gr SWC hard cast at 1000 fps or so will do the deed.

You only need real .454 stuff for moose, elk, and bears.

The 454 is a do everything caliber if you handload. The 454 is where pain generally starts when you shoot full power loads according to big bore guy Max Prasac. I have one in 480 and find the revolver unwieldy except when hunting or at the range. I much prefer something smaller (both caliber and revolver size) as a general purpose shooter.

The target grey finish grows on you. I still think the SRH is ugly.

Get the tamer grips.
