Remington 700 date?
I have a Remington 700 ADL 30/06 (no floor plate) and I would like to figure out its age.
On the left side is stamped with DC 58. Serial #B640****. I have looked at the chart on Remington sight and from what I can tell it was made in Sept 1958. I bought the gun used about 5 years ago and have no idea of its history. It is in very good condition and I find it hard to believe it is that old. |

As long as the barrel is original there is a date code stamped on it. Go here and you can decipher the code for month and year.
http://remingtonsociety.com/rsa/questions/barrelcodes Click on "barrel code location diagram" for an enlarged view to make it easier. I don't think 700's were made in 1958. Remington did not stamp barrels for about 2 years spanning part of 1999 into part of 2001. This is pretty accurate as long as no one has changed barrels. |

Yea, 700's weren't introduced until 1962. They use the same date stamp on all products, so any gun made in those years will be stamped the same.
