1863 Pocket Remington

I’m thinking pretty hard about ordering an 1863 Pocket Remington, steel frame of Pietta manufacture. Midway claims 30+ days for delivery. Don’t see it listed at Dixie. Thunder Ridge seems to have it, and I’ll try contacting them, but does anyone know where else may have them?

I’d like to get an R&D conversion cylinder for .32 S&W to go with it. I couldn’t find it on R&D’s site. The only place I found it was Taylor’s. They list it as for use in the steel frame version of the 1863 Pocket Remington in .36 caliber, manufactured by Pietta and go on to say it converts it to 32 S&W. I wrote to ask if they mean Pocket Remington in .31 caliber, but no response after two weeks.

I thought Midway carried these at one point, but couldn’t find them today. Does anyone know where to get one of these besides Taylor's?

Pocket /police is .36. I don't think anybody is making conversion cylinders for the .31 pocket Remington but I could be wrong. Wouldn't be the first time.
Cabela's will usually deliver in less than a week. Took four days to get my 60 Colt.

Taylor’s lists it here

http://www.taylorsfirearms.com/produ...ers&startat=21

I think they mean .31 caliber and get the 32 S&W part right. Then again... I've been known to be wrong a time or two.

I thought about pokin’ fun at yur sig line, but I’ll refrain, because you pointed out that Cabelas carries the gun I’m looking for. Guess my memory is going now also. Just bought my 1858 from them and never even looked there for the ’63 Pocket!!!???

Going off to check Buffalo now.

Thanks,

Dixie carries it and it's actually cheaper than Midway if you can believe that.

Gun of the month? No such restriction on BP.... although I'm pretty sure the missus has some... and far more serious consequences for violation!

Any you boyz (or gilrz) in NorCal?

Tried emailing Taylor's again today. Nice lady named Sue got back to me right away and said the cylinder is for a .31 caliber 1863 Pocket Remington and converts to S&W 32 cartridge. She said they're taking orders, but don't know when they'll get them in. I ordered mine anyway. Now I just have to go order the gun to go with it.

Cap and Ball is the way to go

I just don't know. The idea of getting a perfectly good cap & ball gun and changing it over to one of those new fan-dangled cat-ridge guns seems a long way to go to to get to an end.

Why not get a H&R .32 or S&W .32 top break and leave the Remmie alone as a gen-u-wine cap & ball.

The Doc is out now.

I'm assuming that the cartridge cylinder will pop in or out on th '63, just like on the '58, so back to BP in about 10 seconds. The reason I'm doing this is so I can shoot them at the local indoor range, where they would not appreciate me shooting BP.

Easy…. I’m green with envy here guys!

There are people not far from me that do shoot on their property, but I think they have 80+ acres. I’m on one acre and have neighbors too close for me to be shooting.

We’re starting to get serious about where we’ll live in retirement. I’m insisting that we live some place where I can walk out back and shoot. Mrs. Grymster may have other ideas.

Meanwhile, I added the 1863 to my Christmas list. If Santa don’t bring it, I’ll probably buy one in January. Hopefully, I’ll have the conversion cylinder I ordered by then.

And so it begins

I see a thread about some gun I don't have.

I come back to it from time to time to see what is new in the thread.

I get to thinking about that gun.

I start to check to see if I can afford one or if I can find it on sale somewhere.

I don't think about whether I NEED it or not.

Remington .31 clone. Hmmmmm. Smaller than my .31 Colt replica. Hmmmmm.

Looks like a neat little gun...

And so it begins.

The Doc is out now.

Well Doc - It's just like the rest of us - we don't "need" most of the stuff we have - but it sure is FUN! I do feel a bit sorry for Grym though as I would hate to have to shoot at a place with "r.o's"....
