SOT Question
I just received my FFL and got the paperwork for the SOT. I plan on being a C2/SOT and ATF says the $500 is pro-rated, but I have heard otherwise from other individuals. Anyone out there know for sure???

I never had an SOT, but I don't believe the SOT is pro-rated. No matter when in the year you pay it, its $500 and only good until the renewal date (which is in June IIRC). Don't forget the mandatory State Dept fee has been increased for 07/SOTs and is now something around $1750/year. I don't think that fee is prorated either, but as far as I'm aware the renewal date for that is a year from when you pay it (unlike the SOT which has a fixed renewal date).

The SOT is NOT pro rated.
You pay $1000 per year for any portion of a year you sign up. July 1 to June 30 is the year, NOT the calendar year. SO by signing up now you would spend $1000 to cover March, April, May, June. I would suggest that unless you have orders that REALLY need to be filled, you submit in June for Fiscal 2006. NOTE: I say $1000 because that's our payment, you may be "reduced" and only pay $500. |
