Why not neck up? Say get 260 or 243 brass. The think you might encounter necking down is that neck thickening and require you to ream the case neck on the inside. Then again why go to the trouble when both WW and RP 7.08 brass is available. www.gunstop.com

To do the work you would have to lube up the cases well, imperial die wax works well. Then I because you are going down, and the next logical step down would be the 7.08 die. So, run a well lubed 308 into the 7.08 FL sizer and then deal with the doughnut that may be caused by necking down. Of course then you would have to do case prep, and then fire form the brass to your gun.

Personally I would buy the brass, and thus you would skip the hassle!

Thanks rn22723. I have about 500 .308 brass. I thought I might save some money by converting to 7mm-08, but if I have to ream out necks I think I will just buy some 7mm-08 brass and save myself the trouble. Again thanks for the advise.

Several of my friends and I have converted various cases from 243 up to 308 into .260 Remington, which is pretty close to what you want to do.

Depending on the neck dimensions in your chamber, you might or might not have to turn necks. Try necking a couple 308 cases down in your 7-08 die, seating a bullet, and see if they chamber freely. If yes, then you're probably good to go.

When I neck 243 up to 260, I have to turn the necks because I have a tight-necked chamber and part of the shoulder of the 243 is becoming neck in the new 260 case.

At one time I used to have the time and energy to make 308 and 243 out of an endless supplu of 30-06 brass. At the time it was fun, but I had to ream necks and outside turn them. Wat too much work for what it was worth then and especially now. I agree that maybe just buying new brass is a lot easier and cheaper considering the equipment you will also have to buy.

Lotsa gunshops have Wild Animal boxes of fired brass. See if you can work a trade. Even two for one saves a bunch of hassle.
