3 screw or 4 screw?

Howdy,
I'm looking at the Uberti 1860 Colt Army, some of the pistols have 3 screws in the frame, some I have looked at have 4 screws; what's the difference and/or advantage, if any, between the 3 screw and 4 screw pistol?

4 Screw models will also have the recoil shield cut for the addition of a sholder stock attachment where the 3 screw model is not.

There is no real advantage to either unless you plan to also acquire the sholder stock to attach to your revolver from what I have seen there is no price difference either.

I could'nt find an 1860 pietta or uberti in a 3 screw configuration. I could find the 1873 open top and Richards-Mason. I called VTI and they said that for pietta the 1860 barrel will fit the 1851 with a little fitting, thus making it possible to make a 3 screw pietta 1860.
I would like to know the history behind the difference between 3 and 4 screw patterns.
Edit: It took a whlie to post that last part and didn't see that someone posted before me.

The 1860 has a longer grip frame than the 51. May not make any difference to you but I thought I'd mention it.
