Help finishing a revolver
I recently traded into a 1858 that obviously was built from a kit and was not finished. The metal is not finished. There are milling marks on the barrel and it is not blued. I saw online that these were sold in kits so I assume this was. How do I finish it? Draw file the metal? How do you blue it etc? Thanks.

I draw file both round & octagon bbls at first, then I further smooth/polishtham with emery paper - backed by a flat board for an octagon bbl, used in a shoe-shine method on a round bbl.
There are entire books on the various browning/bluing methods, but probably the best & most authentic-looking for a home hobbyist would be a rust blue method (google). An option would be to leave it "in the white", and age it a bit, so that an appropriate patina is achieved - enough to make it look like an old/antique. . |

Check out the thread on this forum
by Mike Belaveau Working on a rifle kit from Track of the Wolf.
The techniques he uses are very well explained. Good series but I recommend watching a ways from your checkbook.
