1851 pietta grips
I would like to change the grips on on my pietta. It might look odd, but I was thinking it woud be nice to be able to change to a birdhead grip, but cannot find anything like this.

There are currently no aftermarket or OEM birdshead grip frames for the 1851 Navy. There have been some homemade frames that look quite handsome, however. If you're handy with a torch it's not too difficult to do.

Never thought of it that way. I guess it is the lazy consumerist in me. This will probably take six months but should be fun!

I may be wrong but I think the 1873 Colts, Colt Thunderer and Lightning used the same grip frame as the 51 Navy. Uberti makes Lightnings but I dunno if Pietta grip frames will interchange with Uberti.

Good thinking on that, the closest I got was one from MidwayUSA for a Ruger that I was going to play with and see if I could TIG the holes and make it work.

Here's a link to The High Road, where someone made some for his 1860. Very nice work. Being the paranoid type, I'd probably buy the part to modify, instead of possibly ruining the original. Hmmmm, might need to give this some thought.....
