Last time I loaded 255grn lead, with Winchester 296. These were hot loads but they shot real good except for being dirty. There was alot of fire and smoke, and the cases were quite dirty when I ejected them.

I will use this load for hunting and target shooting. I noticed that the .454Casull ammuntion from Cor-bon was no where near as fiery or smokey as the 296. Is there a powder that burns cleaner that would simulate the cor-bon loads?

Thanks,
DaHaMac

I've tried a number of powders for 45LC. The cleanest I've found so far is Hodgdon Clays. I believe they even have some loading data on there web site.

No. WW296 is the correct heavy-load powder for the 45LC.

Try a different brand of bullet, like Laser-Cast or Bull-X.

For light-to-medium loads highly recommend Hodgdon Universal Clays; clean, easy-metering, accurate (much like Unique).
