Sizing down .312 cast & jacketed bullets
Hello All,
I was looking through MidwayUSA and came upon a "Lee lube & sizing die .309", in the bullet casting section. According to the reviews the die has been used to size down .312 jacketed bullets to .309 to fire in a 7.62x25 Tokarev. The questions I have are: 1. Can this same die be used to also size down .312 & .313 un-jacketed lead bullets to the same .309? (would there be complications due to the larger size?) 2. Can this die be used in a Lee handpress and do I need any additional parts or components to make this work in the handpress? Forgive me for asking, but can anyone describe briefly how this would be done. Thank you, Anand |

Slug the bore of the Tok before you do anything. It may be big enough so that you don't need to do anything to those bullets. Lead bullets should be a thou or two over bore size, anyway. The Lee die is intended for use with lead bullets, but it will work with jacketed if you lube the bullets with case lube.
The Lee hand press has enough leverage, but you may have to experiment to get the bullets in. In normal operation, the bullet to be sized is placed on the pedestal and then forced into the die. I suspect you will have to operate the hand press upside down and place the bullet in the die first. |
