Help on date of manufacture of Colt 70 series Gold Cup

I'm looking at buying a Colt 70 series gold cup national match. The serial number is 70s31931. I can't find a date of manufacture on it, but I found a site that said a 70s prefix is a 38 super. This is a 45. Can some one verify this for me?

Usually 70S serial number prefix should be for a gun originally chambered in 38 Super. 70L is for a gun chambered in 9mm Luger. 70G is for a gun chambered in 45 ACP. 70GC would be for a 45 ACP Gold Cup. But Colt did make some 38 Super Gold Cups. Possibility could be a 38 Super gun converted to 45 ACP.

That's the only thing I could find to. He was asking 1200 for it, got him to 1000, but if this not original, I'm not paying that. What would something like this be worth since it is altered?

IMO, it looks like a parts amalgamation, since I've never come across a GC w/o the adj trigger-travel/stop screw target trigger.

I certainly wouldn't pay anywhere near $1K for it - although YMMV.

I'm thinking you are right, that pistol was made in 1979 and should have been chambered for the 38 super;

1979 Ser # 70s29814 thru 70s35747.
