melted nylon on my barrel

Hey guys. Looking for some advice to remove nylon that melted on my barrel. The SIG 716 has a special coating on the barrel.

I laid a hot barrel down on a drop cloth which I thought was made of cotton, but it turns out it was nylon or synthetic.

I did shoot about 40 more rounds to re-heat the barrel and wipe it off. That got some of it, but not all.

appreciate the advice

Anything strong enough to remove melted synthetics will probably mess up the finish, too.
But try Goo Gone, alcohol, WD40, gun solvent, acetone and gasoline.
Hopefully, one of them should help.
Maybe preheat it with a hair dryer.
That's a very thorough chart, but if it's not nylon, it could be anything.
Synthetics can be hard to tell apart, especially if it's a blend.

Put the gun in the freezer before trying solvents, the nylon may pop
right off with very little effort.

I'm curious about this also. I attached a sling to my VZ 58 by looping paracord around the barrel (I shoot left handed and the military sling sucks for that). During a fairly long string of fire, I looked down to notice the paracord had melted into a goop on my barrel.

Brake cleaner? That can act on some plastics. Given that it can be found as a "gun blaster" spray that might be an option, but be sure to avoid the chlorinated version as I understand that can be detrimental to metals.

Obviously this would be a one off, but at the cost of a 716, I doubt you'd want to knowingly expose it even once to a compound capable of metallic degradation.

Otherwise acetone is quite a strong solvent.

Better to have melted nylon on your barrel than melted barrel on your nylons.

(Yeah, that was bad!)
