Denied in colorado

So I'm new here just looking for some advice. 10 day ago I decided to buy a new shotgun and headed to bass pro. I purchesd my shotgun and was told the background check would take 8 days. So I waited the 8 days and wad denied. Now I have apealed the denial because I cannot think of any reason for my denial. I dont have a record other than traffic tickets and the only thing I can think of is I owe money on a fine. Or could it have something to do with my license being suspended. My biggest question is there any way to find out the reason for denial before thier 30 days oh and my license wasnt suspended for anything that would prevent me from purchasing a firearm.

i never heard of an 8 day wait for a background check. Sounds like CO has their own system and its backed up.

If your driver's license was suspended for a reason where the penalty could be prison, that could be a problem. ie: driving with a suspended license, or DWI. But you haven't given enough information to determine that. It could also very well be a mistake that needs to be corrected.

No my license was suspended for not having sr22 insurance so all I had to do was pay a reinstatement fee and I got it back but I still owe money to the state for a fine im hoping it was just a mistake but the 30 days of wondering whats holdin me back is kind of rediculous when I dont think I have done anything wrong

And the reason I had to have sr 22 insurance was just a massive speeding ticket with no insurance at the time

But not for fed purposes (and a 4473 is a fed form).

Re: Denied in colorado

And CBI checks names across that registry and will deny gun purchases.

Hmmm, good point! Even though feds are not doing anything to stop what they consider illegal pot use they may use that info against you for the purpose of firearm restrictions.

Rules that out. Have you seen your form to check you didn't have info off that could cause a mistaken identity to another?

If not then only option is to wait it out and appeal to find out why the CBI said no.

The only mistake made on the form was my address. My current address is not whats on my ID and thats what they used but I talked to the CBI yesterday and they said that the address is not something they deny people for. They also wont tell me the reason over the phone though.

I had to file an apeal and wait 30 days for the results of thier investigation. On the other hand colorado has one of the highest rates for firearm apeals going through and being approved

If you've appealed the denial, really all you can do is wait for the outcome. If it's as you said they should get it straightened out.

I live in CO and I can tell you this happens quite frequently, it happened to me once several years ago, I personally know 2 people that this happened to recently, they were both initially denied, and then approved on appeal.

Colorado stats show that we have many more denials than most other states every year, we also have many more reversals than most other states.

When I was denied, I filed the appeal and in about 2-3 weeks I got a letter saying that the denial was in error. I never found out why I was denied in the first place. I tried to follow up with the CBI and get an explanation, but it seemed like they willfully hindered every attempt to do so. I recall they would not say over the phone and were not helpful at all as to how to do it in writing with forms and such. I smell a rat over there I think.

I think what it boils down to is they just don't care about your rights, they'll deny someone just to pad their numbers on the denial rate and then hide the reversal numbers deep in some report.

One thing to consider, if the License is or was suspended at the time of the app/nics check, You have to have Valid ID, a suspended license is not considered valid ID. Also for different address, It is my understanding from working in a gun shop, albiet in NJ, that the ID must have your current address. Maybe this is why, maybe not, have to wait and see what they say. Good luck though.

Or maybe Colorado just denies people knowing full well that they should not, kind of like insurance companies do with claims that they know they should pay, hoping that most will not appeal. Maybe they are under some order from someone with an agenda......
