need reloading tip on 220 swift
I posted a while ago about reloading a 220 swift, i was looking for a good recomendation on powder and bullets. im looking at a Llyman #45, there is all sorts of stuff but dont have time and money to waste on thousands of combinations. If I can narrow it down to 2 or 3 loads with 2 choices of bullets, weather it be barnes, sierra etc. Would get me done faster..
HELP ME PLEASE |

Pick a bullet weight and start with the powder given for the accuracy load given in our manual. The Lyman 45th is the one I have too. It's old though. Using the accuracy load powder has worked very well for me since the 45th Edition was new.
Who made the bullet or its shape doesn't matter. A 50 grain bullet will do nicely with IMR3031 or IMR4064. Work up a load with a 50 grain bullet and you'll be fine. I'd be thinking a Sierra Blitzking or Hornady V-Max for a Swift. Barnes bullets are solid copper and don't fly like regular bullets. They're expensive and require Barnes data too. Barnes does have data for their bullets on-line though. It's under 'technical' on their site.

CAUTION: The following post includes loading data beyond currently published maximums for this cartridge. USE AT YOUR OWN RISK. Neither the writer, The Firing Line, nor the staff of TFL assume any liability for any damage or injury resulting from use of this information.
IMR 4064 is excellent in the 220 swift it gives super accuracy and velocity is good to 50 gr bullet. Start load 34 grain’s for 3310 Max load 38.5 grain’s for 3560 fps H4895 50 gr bullet Start load 35gr for 3600 fps Max load 38 gr for 3840 fps Both loads WLR primer. |

"...includes loading data beyond currently published maximums for this cartridge..." Don't even think about it. Follow the manual religiously.
Mind you, 38.5 is 1/10th over max with IMR4064. 34 grains is a full grain under minimum. 1/10th of a grain over won't make much difference. Neither will 1 grain under. 38.0 is the published max for H4895 with a 50 grain bullet.
