help needed regarding 9mm power pistol 124gr XTP

am a fairly new loader and have ran into a bit of trouble regarding 9mm load data. seems 124gr XTP runs little wide and my Steyr M9 does not like it when seated to the suggested length of 1.150" bullet hits the rifling. I have toyed with seating depths and COL's seems the 124gr XTP will not hit the rifling when the COL is 1.125-1.127. I have no problem at all with Hornady 115gr FMJ round nose loaded to 1.150 and looked at some other cartridges my gun has shot winchester 115gr whitebox FMJ&JHP,speer 124gr FMJ,CCI blazer 115gr,S&B 115gr FMJ,UMC 115gr FMJ.

at moment working with power pistol powder though all data I have is Lee's speed die paper, deluxe die set paper, modern reloading book and alliants web page data which list 124gr jacket bullets COL to 1.150. oddly they list 115gr COL 1.120. I measured the hornady 115gr FMJ and 124gr XTP the XTP is + .005 taller.

think it would be okay to use 115gr data at 1.125 with 124gr XTP would leave same internal capacity as 115gr maybe back off loads some slightly below 6.0 gr work up? also keeping eye on gr data for 147gr though thats 1.140 OAL not messing with 147gr bullets but read somewhere when dont have data start with heavier bullet data work up something like that anyway.

anyone have any other data. have done some searches seen some issues with CZ pistols saw some people going to shorter OAL. I havent toyed with changing OAL's I know the basics further out less pressure further in more pressure
bring the OAL lessen powder. again powder at moment is POWER PISTOL.

on another note does anyone know what OAL winchester's website data uses? see they show 1.169 max didnt bother to include it elsewhere and have some Win Super Field would like to use eventually.

appreciate any help.

as always, Safety First

Hornady uses 1.050" OAL with the 124g XTP; suggest instead an OAL of 1.090" -- can go longer if it proves to be reliable in your gun.

Suggested PP start load = 5.4g. Suggest .2g increments.
I use 6.0g for numerous bullets......in my guns.

thanks. yeah I can go out to 1.125 with 124gr XTP profile. think I will go different JHP for 124gr one that can be seated longer if possible seems like weird issue of truncated profile vs more rounded profile. I can take 115gr FMJ out to MAX OAL np in this pistol but XTP seems to run slightly wider further away from case enough that when seated it will hit the rifling.

I did manage to find a scan of Hornady loads on 9mm 124gr. I need to get me some more load data, remember looking at various books and not being impressed then again at time was more interested in 40sw data.

pistol is Steyr M9. thanks to search engine found CZ's have similar issue. sucks glocktalks search engine is down loading section used to be quite helpfull as well. thank god for thefiringline and thehighroad

followup

found bit of Hornady information which listed the OAL to 1.060 with range of 4.3gr-900fps to 5.7gr-1100fps.

I also got a copy of the complete reloading manual for the 9mm. which imo is not complete but has some info which has proven usefull. anyway page 20 in speer section list 124gr 1.120 OAl and Power Pistol from 5.6gr-1033fps to 6.4gr-1157

I loaded some 25 cartridges using Hornady XTP 124gr bullets,CCI 500 primer and once fired winchester brass. went from 6.0gr to 6.6gr OAL of 1.125 fired out of Steyr M9 all feed and functioned perfectly recoil was nice. also loaded some 115gr same OAL same gr increment. no pressure signs.
