Ok, so there WAS a .45 Short colt...I stand corrected! However, can anyone prove that the .45 Colt was ever called "Long" by anyone other than non-Coltists?

Somewhere in my collection of gun magazines is a picture of a box of .45 Long Colt cartridges, labeled as such, from Colt Firearms.

9mm para is prepare for war. .45 Colt is a caliber seperate from other English calibers,no short Colt.army cartrtidge.

The 45 short colt in the picture was originally designated the 44 colt, or 44 rimfire. Jobber literature differentiated the two using short and long.

It was designed for Sam's 1872 model.

.45 Medium Colt was developed by Argentinian wildcatter by the name of Jorje Cabesanada circa 1903. Being a typical wildcatter he was always finding new ways to spend a buck when a pence would do. Or Peso for Centavo in his case.

He found that the necks of his .45 Colt cases were splitting after many many reloads and simply tirmmed them. Not satisfied with the accuracy thusly obtained, he commissioned from Colt some cylinders with 1/8" shorter chambers and trimmed his cases to exact length.

He first tried to market the idea under the name .45 Especial but sold none.

He then changed the name to .45 Colt Media (medium) and that didn't sell too.

His next dive into enterpanourship was his single grove rifling for snub barreled revolvers.

Jorje was found strangled in his bed. His wife and all fourteen children confessed to the deed. They were tried and found justified.

So there.....the short history of the .45 Medium Colt.
