Gun ownership data for 59 nations

For anyone interested in relative levels of gun ownership in various nations, the best recent data is a paper by David Kopel and two other scholars, recently published in the Texas Review of Law and Politics.*

Here are a few examples to show the scope of the data: China is listed as having 31 firearms per 1000 citizens; India is 43; Iran, the Philippines and the UK are all around 50; Israel is at 81; Jordan, Brazil, Russia, and Ukraine are all around 90; Mexico, Australia, Belgium, Thailand, Austria and Denmark from 150 to 180; New Zealand at 250; Germany, Canada, Sweden, France and Norway from 300 to 360; Italy and Switzerland around 450; Finland at 550; the US tops the list of 59 nations at 900 firearms per 1000 citizens, or 0.90 firearms per citizen.

The data undoubtedly do not cover all firearms. However, these are the best data we have.

You can download the paper at the link below if you are interested in more data from this very useful journal article.

Hope this is a helpful link.

At 0.9 guns per citizen, we can assume there are some slackers out there not carrying their fair share of the load. <g>.
Pretty sure that figure does not include illegal alien residents, or we would be considerably lower.

Well 90% of people I know don't own guns. You gota figure in what the average number of guns per gun owner is...

But when the zombies invade, we sure know what country will come out on top

Yeah, but when the Body Snatchers invade those low ownership nations, they'll have a field day.
