.451 vs. .452

I'm a novice reloader doing both .45 ACP and .45 Colt. The Lyman 48th edition of their Reloading Handbook says to use .451 dia. bullets for ACP and .452 dia. for the .45 Colt.

Why? Does that .001 really make a difference as long as the rest of the material is within speck?

I'm not doing hot loads and it would be cheaper to use one bullet.

If I have to go with the two different sizes, so be it. I'm just wondering if that .001 makes a real difference in plinking/fun ammo. I'm not shooting for MOA.

Thanks in advance.

I load .452 lead bullets in the .45 ACP and .45 Colt and .451 jacketed bullets in both with no problems.

The .45 ACPs are for a variety of Series 70 Colts and the .45 Colts are for a third generation Colt SAA.

Some older SAAs had groove diameters of .454 but most post WW II revolvers accept the smaller bullets.

one?

.452"

More choices?

Test......(my BarSto prefers .451" lead vs .452" lead, but truthfully ONLY when I'm having a really good day ;-).
