Ruger SR1911

Hey guys and gals. Just picked up a new sr1911 and wanted to get opinions from others about the gun. Have about 120 rounds through it and need to get better with my groups. Any tips or advice. Also has anyone had any trouble with the 7 round ruger mag

Congrats on the purchase! I'm pretty interested in those, myself. I don't have any experience with them yet, but from what I've heard, they've been doing pretty well.

I have the Springfield TRP, and I'm REALLY wanting the Champion Operator next.

The SR1911 commander size would be pretty sweet though.

I wish they made the Range Officer without the adjustable sight. That's one hell of a good gun.

Uncle,

I have one of each if you want to try them. Both SR1911s run fine.

I got an early SR1911 CMD in Jan. My first 1911 and it is awesome!
One of my best shooters, and a nice, tight fitting, quality piece.
I am a big fan of the Ruger guns- have four of them, and no complaints.
You will love your SR1911!

Congrats on your new pistol. Hope it serves you well. I know yours is not the Commander-size but just for info Guns & Ammo features the Commander-size and also the SR45 in the April issue.

I really wanted a SR1911 when I caught the 1911 bug in 2011. I couldn't find one anywhere, so I ended up with a Range Officer instead. I love it as a range gun, but if I needed it as a carry gun I would probably get rid of the adjustable sights (as was mentioned above). I think the SR1911 is a more ready carry gun, but both are good guns overall.

I got one used about 3 months ago. Sweet gun and runs flawlessly. The only advise I can give you is "enjoy".
I saw one on Texas Gun Trader going for $900 today. That's way high but it's there.

Brownells...

I do not own one of John Moses Browning's most popular designs.
I was issued a beat down 1911a1 Remington Rand .45acp in USFK(South Korea) in 1990. I'm not a huge fan of the model but it has a rich history & 1,000s of hard corps supporters.
The fact that the USMC & Colt just set up a new military contract for a 1911a1 series .45acp pistol should tell you how highly the pistol is considered.
Brownells, www.brownells.com markets a printed catalog of just 1911 items & gear.
There are many books, articles and forums/media just for the 1911 models too.
Here are some sources you can check or research; www.boatmanbooks.com www.paladin-press.com www.deltapress.com www.gunvideo.com www.nra.org .

Many like the new G10 type pistol grips for the 1911a1 series. Hogue makes great pistol grips in alloy, wood, rubber, nylon. Craig Spegel of OR makes 1911 pistol grips in wood. www.CraigSpegel.com
Crimsontrace & Lasermax market add-on laser aimers that fit the 1911a1/SR1911 models: www.crimsontrace.com www.lasermax.com .

For top protection or carry rounds in .45acp, Id suggest these brands; Speer Gold Dot 230gr JHP +P, Ranger T/T Series 230gr JHP +P, Remington Golden Saber 230gr JHP +P, Hornady Critical Duty 220gr round, TAP .45acp, PowRball .45acp, Corbon DPX.

Hey icebergb, congrats on the 1911 SR, they're one of the better quality 1911's out there. As far as your target groups, the 1911 is very trigger sensative, if not held properly you'll get the slightest muzzle movement. Best to just hit youtube and check out 1911 hand positioning and trigger squeeze, realy helped me a LOT! Good luck with the new gun, i know you'll enjoy it.

OP, shoot your SR1911 wet (lubricated) put 500 rounds through it, and then come back and tell us if you notice a difference.

Re: Ruger SR1911

My SR1911 has about 2000 through it so far. Huge variety of brands ammo.
Both Ruger mags have been fine. Also picked up a stock mag from a Remington R1 as well as Metalform mag. All have work flawlessly, except for 1 single FTF (was with the Metalform)
Absolutely love shooting my SR1911!

Congrats on a great pistol and the best handgun design there is. I love mine I was lucky and got it before prices starting getting crazy. I put a EGW bushing on it and a trigger job and it shoots great right with the rest of my 1911"s. I reload and use a lot of lead bullets no problem how hard is 45acp to even find? I know it is limited around here but you can find it. How bout where you are?
Good luck and enjoy

Congrats on the pistol. Practice, practice, practice. Get some snap caps and practice at home for cheap.
