Interesting loads for a 16 inch 45/70?
Hey guys. Anybody have any pet loads for 45/70 out of Co-pilot/trapper length guns?

I have/load for a Guide Gun. My favorite powder is H4895. You might consider a powder like Reloader #7 or IMR 3031, they are both quicker than H4895 and should give good performance in a 16" barrelled gun.

In my Marlin 1895 GG, this shoots very well for me...
Hornady 300gr HP 48.3 gr RL7 Federal Large Rifle Primer Starline Brass COAL 2.550 (at cannelure) I'm sure you know all of this, but: Note that this is a rather warm load. Don't start there; start lower and work up. Don't use this in guns that can't handle it (if you're not sure, ask!). -nosualc Last edited by nosualc; January 26, 2009 at 05:03 PM. |
