Thoughts on TA55A ACOG?

I've tentatively decided on slapping a Trijicon TA55A ACOG to my SCAR 17H. Does anyone have experience with this scope or a reason why I shouldn't go with it?

My main goal is to use this as a pig gun and general plinker to run with a suppressor.

My only thought is $1500.00 for a fixed 5.5x power scope, I think there are better options for far less money. Don't get wrong they have great optics and are built like a tank I had the TA01NSN, but at the end of the day all I had was a fixed 4x power scope.

I understand what you're saying about a fixed 5.5 power scope, but I carried an ACOG in Iraq and loved it. There's other sights out there, but I haven't quite found anything that meets my needs as well as an ACOG (except a Leopold 8, but that's a bit out of my price range).

If that were my main goal I would be looking at something more like this....http://www.vortexoptics.com/product/...eticle/reticle

Thanks for your service to this great country BTW!

Sounds like you already have the experience to make a decision. Personally, I've never seen the need for much more magnification than that for hunting deer or hogs, and I've rarely heard of someone hating their ACOG. Very pricey, though, and the real question is do you foresee needing such a bomb-proof optic for hunting. If you do, go for it.

Yeah an ACOG is kinda overkill, as I don't plan on fast-roping out of a helicopter onto the range, or taking it scuba diving. But by definition a SCAR 17 is pretty much a vanity project and/or "look at me and how awesome I am" toy anyways and putting a dinky optic on a $3k rifle, just doesn't sit right with me.
