I wonder if... ( oh never mind, there is no common sense involved with this legislation )
... one could get by adding blocks under or in place of the follower ( much like duck hunters have to do to cut down on some guns capacities )

you can still have the grandfathered ones, just not load them all the way. Still really silly...

Nope. As silly as that would be, they are going to give us a year to sell our clips out of state. Anyone in possesion of a clip with a 10 rd capacity will be guilty of a misdemeanor. If 10 rd clips are so bad, why does Cuomo wish such an ill on anyone out of state? Where am I even supposed to go?! Drive to PA and start asking around?! This is ridiculous! The irony is I liked Cuomo. He was a friend of my late uncle, who spoke highly of him. I voted for him and would have again. He just lost my support.

Section 38 of the bill amends Penal Law 265.00(23) to ban all large capacity magazines that have the capacity to hold more than ten rounds of ammunition including those that were grandfathered in under the original assault weapons ban and creates a new ban on magazines that hold more than seven rounds of ammunition. Magazines that can hold more than seven rounds but not more than ten rounds and are currently possessed will be grandfathered in, but may only contain seven rounds of ammunition. Exceptions are made for large capacity magazines that are curios or relics.

And I think back to the 94 AWB. I bought a Glock back then that came with 10 round mags. The reduced capacity was bad enough but the really frustrating part to me was that they were hard to load and definitely not as reliable as the standard ones. Same thing with a 10 round AR mag that came with a rifle. That 10 round AR mag got tossed in the trash... not due to capacity... but due to the fact that it caused the rifle to misfeed on occasion. Never failed with standard milspec mags. So if you can finally find some 7 round "special" mags for your Beretta 92F, how PO'ed will you be when the pistol jams with them?! Gregg |

When you provide those on the mental edge of life with training films that are tactical in nature (violent video games), then compound that with television and movies that de-values human life and makes it exciting or fills some anger place in their mixed up brain giving them new ideas, we have to expect those roaming the streets or left to their own merits to do things that shock those that still have the capacity to understand the difference between right and wrong. Getting a handle on the mentally ill is a good step. Perhaps if we could get teeth back in the FCC, we could get a handle on the intertainment industry. That would be another good step for those on the fringe of irrational thinking. Call your representatives to put the teeth back into the FCC. Lets get our complete freedom of gun rights back by being proactive where it will be more effective than just a token step to stroke the gunophobes. Keep calling your representatvies and encouraging others to do like wise. They won't listen to a few, but they will listen to a majority.

Second, let's pretend the spotlight does swing towards the violent media and there's some sort of reform to bring down the level of violence, whatever this theoretical action is. When they're done, do you really think they won't come back to guns? The idea of sacrificing one right for another is horrible. I'm sure those rights to play a video game or see a violent movie aren't as high on the list, but it's just as bad to say we should pin everything on that; and to be blunt, is a bit hypocritical. And as an aside, to everyone who thinks NY is going to be the only state that this is going to happen to, think again. Today it's 'oh, poor little NY, but I still have my guns, sucks to be them.' If there isn't some sort of solidarity amongst gun owners, the whole country is going to be an NY. Hunters don't care about assault weapons owners, rifle owners don't care about pistols; today it's something that isn't important to you, but they'll get to it. NY managed to cut down semi-auto rifles and pistols in one move, and it wasn't even hard. Before today, I was one of those people that felt something like this could never happen. Don't let your arrogance and organizations like the NRA tell you otherwise; the chances of it happening are very, very real. It takes one law to set the precedent and get everyone else thinking.

I hope the Remington plant in Ilion just up and leaves. The loss of 3k some odd jobs won't look good. They threatened to leave before the microstamping bill was passed, and that didn't work. Maybe this will get fixed if they throw their weight around.

MSN is reporting that Bloomberg is calling the NY Law ," ... an example for Washington." I humbly call upon all you New Yorkers to vote these antigun politicians out of office openly and vocally as an example to Washington. The next thing that happens after mandatory registration of arms is the State collecting said arms. I will not be purchasing anything from NY again. I think you folks can kiss Remington and their money goodbye. I feel sorry for all of you. Move to the Heartland if you can.

Northeast has too many people who are socialist and do not even know it. Growing up there I regularly heard this said "the role of government is to provide services and keep people safe." Was not until after I left I realized how crazy this was. The only option for lawful gun owners is to move or hide your guns.

So... apart from IPSC classic & revolver division, and USPSA single stack, are action shooting sports now basically dead in NY state?

Reading the law and came across assault pistol requirements. Besides the normal, no folding stocks, thumb holes, etc was the rule that any pistol capable of accepting a second handle to a threaded barrel was banned. I know you can attach a handle to mount points on some pistols with forward rails, but is it common to have these threaded to the barrel?
Also best of luck figuring out this bill. Background checks on ammo purchases is insane. Did not read close enough to see about importing, might be able to drive to PA and buy. No mail order for sure. |

Regarding the vidja games...put a troubled person in front of them for years and years and of course they will become both desensitized to violence and disconnected from reality to some extent.
Its a culture/community problem though. That crazy 19 year old jacked up on psychotic meds for years and killing zombie after zombie on TV just needs an intact family, some friends to get him out of the house (go skateboarding or something) and in general needs a community that knows each other and genuinely cares about each other. So no, video games shouldn't be banned any more than firearms. Problem is gubmint can't grow in size and power in a climate where we have actual families and real community. To those of you in NY, hopefully things can be overturned in court. For those of us in free states we can't sit back and feel proud of our states while other states are suffering. We are all in this together. It is telling though how states are moving in polar directions on gun control. Kind of the cards really be shown. |

Loss of gun manufacturers in the state like Remington.. Loss of citizens living in the state who decide to move Loss of revenue from tourists who refuse to visit state due to absurd laws Loss of revenue from firearms, firearm accessories, and ammunition All of these things equal less money coming in for the state of NY. You would think in such tough economic times they would be doing anything they can to EARN revenue for their state, but instead Bloomeberg and these other simple minded buffoons are trying to make a name for themselves. |

am I mistaken, or isn't this signed into law now?
can we ban politicians, or at least, cap them at five per state.

Unfortunatly, today New York. Tomorrow, Connecticut, Rhode Island and New Jersey.
By the weekend, Vermont, Massatwo****s, Maryland, Delaware and California. Maine might hold out for a week. After that Obama has his way with the rest of the country. |

Cuomo calling his constituents names? Lumping everyone together. Patting himself on the back? This is an insult to every law abiding citizen and the Tyrants our founding fathers warned of.
to quote him "You can overpower the extremists with intelligence and common sense," he said before inking the deal in Albany.

Xaak - the black eye these states are giving themselves will last long after we are all dust. Its not like they can go to court and change what SCOTUS has already ruled. These states can push this in the short run but in the long run they will loose.. Consider the jobs alone... Arms are a huge industry and in a economy that's barely positive how is this going to help these states? No Sir, they are cutting their noses to spite their face..

Don't group all of us New Yorkers together, Cuomo & Bloomberg are dangerous people, they are zealots. The problem with ny is NYC. There are so many commies there than they cancel out our votes come election time. Voting up here is pointless. I live in the highest taxed county in the country, and after what Cuomo did today, I've had it. My only option as I see it is to move out.

BGutzman, I fervently hope you are right and the SCOTUS doesn't come down with some twisted logic to say "it's alright."
