9mm and IMR PB
Hello all,
I haven't loaded 9mm for a while now and was looking through my powders and found a pound of IMR PB: http://www.imrpowder.com/pb.html Iv'e never used it before, and it looks like flattened Cheerios. I'm using it with both jacketed and cast bullets from 90gr. to 147gr. and haven't shot any of the loads yet. My question: Is it worth buying any more in bulk or just sticking with 700 and 800X? And how does it compare to AA-5? Happy shooting Scott5 |

I've only used PB for 12 and 20 gauge target loads. Nice powder. I guess I couldn't fairly answer your question, because of one basic flaw in your overall experience with PB. You haven't shot any of the loads. You'll be better off working up a load and actually see if it shoots worth a darn before asking if you should buy it in bulk. Then, you'll answer your own question. This a "the cart before the horse" situation.

Yes Dogjaw, you are right.
But I wanted to hear from people who have used in 9mm to tell me if I'm all wet or not. PB is bulky, and with the lighter bullets it's compressed, so there is no possibility of a double charge but it's not as bulky as Trail Boss. Happy shooting Scott5 |

Years ago, Don Zutz, the shotshell guru, shot a little 9mm. Enough for a magazine article, anyhow. He found PB to be a good powder for it.

PB is a little faster than IMR SR4756. I've used 4756 in the 9mm before, and it shot very well in more than one gun. I'd use it, and work up your loads. Be aware that very small increases in the seating depth can really raise your pressures in the Parabellum.
