Need advice on a new press

I received as a gift a Hornady Projector. My brothers out in Kali got it for me as a present. It's got dies, a powder measure, an elctronic scale, tumbler, the works...Some of the items, like the press itself, and the powder measure look like they could use a cleaning (it came from an estate sale), some light rust, greasy residue, etc...can any of these items be safely disassembled, cleaned, and reassembled? Wher could I get the info? Does Hornady do this kind of service?

Thanks in advance...

Sounds like Xmas came early! Wish my brother would do that. I doubt that Hornady wants that job - just set up around the fire one night and start cleaning!

Most of it can be cleaned...

The dies can be cleaned with solvent and brushes and cleaning rags. The tumbler can be wiped off with a dusting rag; maybe a little Simple Green on the plastic tub.

If you are handy, the powder measure can be cleaned with solvent. When you reassemble it, be careful with lube; you don't want any near the powder reservoir.

The electronic scale. Just wipe down the outside.

The press can be taken apart (if you're handy) and solvent cleaned and lubed. For the press, lube everything that moves with either Break Free or 20 wt motor oil. But no so it drips.

Thank you both...I take it the items can in fact be disassembled, cleaned, lubed, and reassembled...I'll do it by a roaring fire.

Thanks again

Take the press OUTDOORS, and spritz it with brake cleaner until you get most of the crap off of it. Then wipe it down with a light sheen of oil, and grease the ram with something heavier.

If it's square, that's all it needs.

How do you test for squareness?

Most practical way would be to resize a piece of brass that you know doesn't have a lot of intrinsic runout (uniform wall thickness to start) and see if it comes out shaped like a bananna.
