will slugs hurt my smoothbore shotgun barrel ?

18 1/4 inches. That is legal. handy in close locations but that is where most of the fighting is. To be repeatative in another post 10 feet. Crucial area of defense.

I like the 12 Gauge and it is a matter of opinion which shell you want to use.

They will open up quicker and not hold the pattern for as long. Most of the barrel at the end is the choke, unless you add a choke (will make it longer unless it is part of the barrel) As in welded or brazed or silversoldered.

So when you cut it off she is no more. With the new wadding and plastic containers it holds longer but still opens quite a bit quicker.

Edit: You changed so I will wait for a reply, I am talking about the short barrels. Slugs are better in modified barrels or open IMO. Have sights on them like a rifle it helps.

I have heard, and can not confirm, that you should not shoot slug out of double barrel shotguns due to the construction of the barrels. Perhaps someone can verify this.

Assuming that is not your issue, there is also a concern on how tightly choked your barrel is. Although I hear conflicting reports on that as well.

Yes, on the choke I would be inclined to believe that. That would be something to consider on the side by side and over and under also. You
don't have chokes on the double Rifles of above mention.

You can shoot any slug from any shotgun that is proofed for smokeless powder. NO manufacturer would put any thing on the market that could only be fired in ceratin guns. I have shot slugs through a fully choked gun without a hitch. The accuracy sucks mind you, and they do shoot best with open chokes.
