Mounting a red dot
Just got the $29 BSA red dot in from notchez. Looks great im very impressed for the money. Hope it holds up well. I usually see people mounting them midway down the pistol. I put mine towards the rear.
Is it just a matter of preference? IMO it really dressed up the look of this otherwise ugly duckling of a pistol, at least its very accurate. Should be able to get 1/2" groups at 200yds with the red dot.

If so,,, I'll buy that pistol from you. That's the exact same set-up I have,,, One on a 6" barrel and one on a 4.5" barrel. They surely are not 200 yard guns,,, But with the 6"-er I hot clay pigeons at 50 yards. Aarond .

The biggest problem I have with this thing is that it looks like a toy not a "real gun". It shoots 200yd groups easy. I just change out the barrel to a
22", change the receiver and action to a bolt action, full walnut stock and a leopold 3-9. After that it looks a little diferent but is accurate at 200yds.

I still have trouble getting 1/2" groups at 20 feet let alone 200 yards!
As far as placement, it's all preference. I prefer further out front as it seems easier for me to quickly sight in a target. My AR's also have their red dots either over the mag or floating just over the hand guard. I'd be interested to see how that BSA sight holds up. Please keep us posted after a few rounds down range. |

I'm gonna be honest about the BSA I have. It is a good sight and holds it's zero pretty well. The down side: is washed out in bright sun light. You can't see the dot. Replaced it with an Ultradot on my Buck Mark and been happy ever since. Big difference in price but also big difference in optics. I'm not putting the BSA down at all. Just wanted to let you know what I experienced with mine.

Yeah I am going to go ahead and call you out on the 1/2 inch grouping at 200 yards. Not that it's not possible, i just done believe you.

I shot about 500 rds through it last night from 7 to 25 yds. I made the mistake of putting it dead on at 7. When I moved out to 15 it was high and I had to crank it way back. Live and learn I guess. Side to side it was on the money. Actuel grouping was very impresive (for me) I was able to hold about a 1 1/2" at 25 yds. We will see where it shoots next trip out.

Nice looking rig.
I have a BSA tube type dot scope on a .22. It works just fine on an overcast day or indoors. But like jfrey says, it washes out some in bright light. Ya' get what ya' pay for, especially with optics. But it still gets used quite a lot. No complaint, especially for the price. I like the dot just forward of where the rear sight would be, like you have. Enjoy
